Journeys is a specialty chain retailer, owned by Genesco, of branded fashion footwear and accessories with approximately 1,200 stores nationwide. Journeys operates five retail concepts across North America including Journeys, Journeys Kidz, Shi by Journeys, Underground by Journeys and Little Burgundy. [3] [4] Journeys is focused on "quickly shifting fashion footwear trends.", [5] and is described as the anti-Foot Locker. [3]

History

Journeys opened its first store in Nashville, Tennessee at Rivergate Mall in December 1986. [6] Within ten years, Journeys had opened 100 stores, and by 1999 launched its website. [6] In 2001, Journeys Kidz opened its first location, followed by an opening of Shï in 2005. [6] In 2010, Journeys opened its first store in Canada. [6]

In 2011, Journeys started the "Attitude That Cares" program [7] to encourage its employees to get involved locally in community outreach & service. [8] In 2014, Journeys began its partnership with the Vans Warped Tour, becoming its Presenting Sponsor for its 20th Anniversary tour. [9] In 2015, Journeys became the title sponsor of the Alternative Press Music Awards. [10] In 2021, Journeys announced a partnership with Can’dAid, (candaid.org), an organization that rallies volunteers from all walks of life to build thriving communities. [11]

In 2018, Journeys partnered with Converse to put on a free prom for teens in Houston, Texas. [12]

Journeys is a teen specialty footwear retailer. [13] The first location opened at the Rivergate Mall in Nashville, Tennessee in 1986, and there now are stores in every state and $1 billion in sales. [14]

Journeys Kidz

Journeys Kidz is a specialty footwear brand that opened its first store in 2001 for kids 5–12 years old, [15] [16] with the tagline “Big Kidz Shoes, Little Kidz Sizes.” [17] There are 170 locations in the United States. [18]

Little Burgundy

Little Burgundy was purchased from Aldo Group in 2015, adding 37 retail stores. The brand is focused on students and young professionals. [19]

Payless is an international discount footwear chain. Established in 1956 by cousins Louis and Shaol Pozez, Payless was a privately held company owned by Blum Capital, and Golden Gate Capital. In 1961, it became a public company as the Volume Shoe Corporation which merged with The May Department Stores Company in 1979. In the 1980s, Payless was widely known in the U.S. for its Pro Wings line of discount sneakers, which often had Velcro straps instead of laces. In 1996, Payless became an independent publicly held company. In 2004, Payless announced it would exit the Parade chain and would close 100 Payless Shoe outlets. On August 17, 2007, the company acquired the Stride Rite Corporation and changed its name to Collective Brands, Inc. The company had a total revenue for 2011 of US$ 3.4 billion. The company also has a stunt premium banner, Palessi Shoes. Payless is currently owned by a group of investors led by Alden Global Capital and Axar Capital Management.

Opened in October 1971, the mall features 1,129,035 square feet (104,890.8 m2) of gross leasable area, with approximately 80 stores and restaurants, as well as a food court. Its original anchor stores were Cain-Sloan, Castner Knott, and JCPenney. Rivergate Mall has two anchor stores: Dillard's and JCPenney. There are two vacant anchor stores that were formerly Macy's and Sears. The mall sits in the core of a shopping district that is shared by the city of Goodlettsville and the Nashville neighborhood of Madison. This area is colloquially referred to by locals as "Rivergate," after the mall. Rivergate Mall is managed by Hendon Properties.

Schuh is a Scottish footwear retailer based in Livingston, Scotland. It has 132 stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The company is predominantly a branded shoe stockist, selling over 80 brands, including: Converse, Vans, UGG, Nike, Adidas as well as its own Schuh label.

John Vincent "Vince" Camuto was an American women's footwear designer and shoe industry executive, best known for co-founding the women's fashion brand Nine West. Following the 1999 sale of Nine West to Jones Apparel Group for $900 million, Camuto became CEO and Chief Creative Officer of a new fashion company, Camuto Group, maker of the Jessica Simpson brand. On October 10, 2018, Vince Camuto was acquired by Authentic Brands Group, as part of the company's definitive agreement to purchase a majority stake in the intellectual property of the Camuto Group's proprietary brands in partnership with DSW Inc.

Pepkor is a South African-based investment and holding company with business interests in Africa, Australia and Eastern Europe. It manages a portfolio of retail chains focused on the value market selling predominantly clothing, footwear and textiles. Its main operating subsidiaries are Pep and Ackermans in South Africa and Best & Less in Australia, all based on a high volume/lower margin business model. Formally known as PEP stores the company changed its name to Pepkor Limited in 1982 and PEP stores became a subsidiary company. Edison Brothers Stores, Inc., was a retail conglomerate based in St. Louis, Missouri. It operated numerous retail chains mainly located in shopping malls, mostly in the fields of shoes, clothing and entertainment, with Bakers Shoes as its flagship chain. The company was liquidated and condemned in 1999, though some of the chains it operated continued under different owners.

Overland Footwear Group is a New Zealand and Australian footwear and fashion retail company. It operates the Merchant 1948 and Mi Piaci retail chains in both countries and produces its own footwear lines.
