Bentota Baduge Joy Lenin Perera (born 1 May 1987) is a Sri Lankan-born Italian international cricketer who debuted for the Italian national team in July 2010. He was born in Sri Lanka. [1]
A right-handed middle-order batsman, Perera debuted for Italy at the 2010 European Championship in Jersey. He had little success, however, scoring just eight runs across three matches. [2] At the 2013 World Twenty20 Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates, Perera played in all eight of Italy's matches. [3] He made 52 runs from seven innings, with a highest score of 18 not out against Uganda. [4] Perera returned to Italy's line-up for the 2014 World Cricket League Division Four tournament in Singapore, but played in only one match (against Oman). He appeared in five games at the 2015 European Twenty20 Division One tournament, and scored 57 runs with a highest of 23 against Norway. [2]
In May 2019, he was named in Italy's squad for their Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Germany in the Netherlands. [5] He made his T20I debut for Italy against Germany on 25 May 2019. [6] The same month, he was named in Italy's squad for the Regional Finals of the 2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier tournament in Guernsey. [7] In November 2019, he was named as the captain of Italy's squad for the Cricket World Cup Challenge League B tournament in Oman. [8] He made his List A debut, for Italy against Kenya, on 3 December 2019. [9]
In September 2021, he was named in Italy's T20I squad for the Regional Final of the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier tournament. [10]
Gareth Kyle Berg is a South African-born English-Italian cricketer who last played domestic cricket for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club. Born in South Africa, he attended Edgemead Primary School and then SACS. He is not considered a Kolpak player, and is qualified by residency for England as well as holding an Italian passport. In January 2021, Berg was named as the head coach of the Italian cricket team and still continues to play for them.

The six teams finishing highest in the qualifier tournament joined Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the first group stage of the 2020 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The tournament formed part of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier series, with the Netherlands winning the final.

The Germany cricket team toured the Netherlands in May 2019 to play two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches against Italy. These were the first T20I fixtures to be played by Italy, after the International Cricket Council announced that all matches played between Associate Members after 1 January 2019 would have full T20I status. Germany had played their first official T20I matches earlier in the month against Belgium. Both matches were played on 25 May 2019, with the teams using the fixtures as part of their preparation for the European Regional Qualifying Finals tournament for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier. Both teams played a 20-over warm up match against a Netherlands Development XI side on 24 May 2019. Italy won the T20I series 2–0.
