Joyce Bagala

Joyce Bagala is a Ugandan journalist and politician. Formerly served as the news manager at Next Media, NBS television. [1] [2] In the 2021 general election, running on the National Unity Platform ticket, she was elected Women's Representative for Mityana District 2021-2026. [3]

Early life and education

Bagala is a Muganda by tribe. [4] She comes from the family of the late Petero Ntwatwa, who served as the Buganda Lukiiko speaker in the 1960s, and maternal grandfather Rev William Ssewanyana Katula, the former Mityana diocesan secretary. [5] She lost both her parents at a young age and was raised by her maternal aunt, Josephine Esther Nansikombi. [4]

She went to Mityana Junior School, Gombe SS and UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication. [1] [4] She later went to Makerere University to pursue a degree in mass communication. [4]

Journalism career

Bagala joined NBS TV in 2016 and has been the flagship anchor of Amasengejje, the 7 pm Luganda news broadcast. [2] She also worked at Radio One Uganda. Bagala worked as a news reader in English at Beat FM, Buddu FM and Sanyu FM. She started anchoring Luganda news at Sanyu FM. [4] In 2019, Bagala was one of the news managers suspended from work on the directive of the Uganda Communications Commission for giving coverage to Presidential Hopefiul, and Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine protests. Uganda Communications Commission suspended all officers at various media houses who were in charge of broadcasts. [6] She threatened to sue the station for wrongful dismissal, a threat that never yielded. [2]

In 2019, she was reported to have ended her 11-year career at Radio One Uganda to create time to make a come back in the upcoming 2021 elections with the current Mityana District woman member of Parliament, Judith Nabakooba. Bagala, however, has retained her job at NBS television. [5]

Political career

In 2019, she hinted about retiring from media to join politics. However, she contested the 2016 general elections and lost to Judith Nabakooba, who was the NRM candidate for Mityana Woman MP. Three years prior, she also contested the elections raced with her cousin Namuleme Esther Ntwatwa, and they both lost to Nabakooba. [7] On October 22-2020, the high court in Mubende nullified Joyce Bagala's election as Mityana woman member of parliament and called for fresh elections, following a petition by lands Minister Judith Nabakooba. [8] Bagala was sued by Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Planning Judith Nabakooba who claimed voter bribery and vote rigging [9]

Personal life

Bagala is married with two children. [10]

Francis Zaake is a businessman and Member of the 11th Parliament of Uganda representing Mityana Municipality. He was first elected to Parliament in the 2016 general elections as an Independent Member. In late 2020, he crossed to the National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda's leading opposition Party. In January 2021, he contested on NUP ticket for MP, Mityana Municipality and won a second term in office. Judith Alyek is a Ugandan politician and the district Woman Representative for Kole District in Uganda's 10th Parliament. She is a member of the National Resistance Movement on whose ticket she ran on in the 2016 general elections. She also serves as the Chairperson on the Committee on HIV/AIDS and related diseases.

Agnes Nandutu is a female Ugandan journalist, politician and Minister in charge of Karamoja. In 2020 she participated in the National Resistance Movement Party primaries which she lost to incumbent Woman MP Justin Khainza, and in the 2021 general election, running as an independent, she was elected Women's Representative for Bududa District.

Stella Namoe Nyomera, commonly referred to as Namoe Stella Nyomera is a female Ugandan politician and social scientist. Achiro Lucy Otim, commonly referred to as Lucy Achiro Otim is a female Ugandan politician and a Gender Specialist. She is the district woman representative for Aruu North County consistency, Pader district in the 10th Parliament. Achiro belongs to an independent political party at the Parliament of Uganda. She won the parliamentary seat running as an independent candidate in 2016. Her tenure as member of parliament was cut short when the Ugandan supreme court nullified her election for non-compliance with electoral laws because the electoral commission failed to carry out a vote recount after she had won with a two vote margin, beating James Nabinson Kidega of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). However, she returned as member of parliament after being re-elected Aruu north member of parliament in the April 2017 election by again beating Kidega, this time 64 percent to 32 percent.

Aisha Sekindi is a Ugandan educator and legislator. As of February 2022, she serves as Uganda's Minister of State for Water and the woman representative for Kalungu district in Uganda's eleventh parliament. She held the same position in Uganda's tenth parliament. Politically, she is affiliated to the National Resistance Movement under whose ticket she contested in the 2016 general election, achieving victory over Aisha Naluyati Waligo.


Joseph Tamale Mirundi is a Ugandan journalist, author and political analyst who appears on the STV political show Sharp Talk with Tamale Mirundi. In 2022, Tamale opened up an online newspaper where he publishes news and information named Kab News. He previously appeared on NBS Television on the One on One show. He is a former presidential press secretary, and media advisor.

NTV Akawungeezi is NTV Uganda's daily news programme, which is delivered in the Luganda language.

Masiko Winifred Komuhangi is a Ugandan politician. She was the National Resistance Movement political party representative of Rukungiri District in the eighth and ninth Parliament of Uganda.

Brenda Nabukenya is a Ugandan politician and legislator. She represents the people of Luwero district as district woman representative for Luwero district in the parliament of Uganda. She subscribes to the National Unity Platform party on whose ticket she was voted into parliament in the 2021 Uganda general elections. National Unity platform is headed by Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi wine.

Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa is a Ugandan news anchor and media personality. He anchors Luganda news Amasengejje and hosts Barometer (Akasameeme) a Luganda talk show on NBS Television (Uganda).
