Chile, officially the Republic of Chile, is a country in western South America. It is the southernmost country in the world and the closest to Antarctica, stretching along a narrow strip of land between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Chile had a population of 17.5 million as of the latest census in 2017 and has a territorial area of 756,102 square kilometers (291,933 sq mi), sharing borders with Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast, Argentina to the east, and the Drake Passage to the south. The country also controls several Pacific islands, including Juan Fernández, Isla Salas y Gómez, Desventuradas, and Easter Island, and claims about 1,250,000 square kilometers (480,000 sq mi) of Antarctica as the Chilean Antarctic Territory. The capital and largest city of Chile is Santiago, and the national language is Spanish.

It was first held in 2002 as the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship with an upper age limit of 19. In 2006, the age limit was raised to the current 20. The event was renamed as a World Cup since the 2008 competition, making its name consistent with FIFA's other worldwide competitions for national teams.

David Marcelo Pizarro Cortés is a Chilean former professional footballer who last played as a midfielder for Chilean Primera División club Universidad de Chile. He is usually deployed as a central midfielder, although he can also operate in a holding role in front of the back-line, in a more attacking position in the hole behind the strikers, or even as a deep-lying playmaker. An intelligent and technically gifted player, who possesses significant physical strength in spite of his diminutive stature, and an ability to dictate play in midfield, Pizarro is known in particular for his vision, range of passing, dribbling skills, and ability from set pieces.

The 2008 Ibero-American Championships in Athletics, was an athletics competition which was held at the Estadio Tierra de Campeones in Iquique, Chile from June 13 to the 15th. A total of forty-four events were contested, of which 22 by male and 22 by female athletes.
Cristian Andrés Chocho León is an Ecuadorian race walker who competes in both the 20 km and 50 km walk events. He is the South American record holder in the 50 km and 20,000 metres walking events.
The South American Race Walking Championships is a biennial race walking competition organized by CONSUDATLE for athletes representing the countries of its member associations. Races for senior men and women, for junior and for youth athletes are featured. In addition, there are separate team competitions. The event was established in 1989 as South American Race Walking Cup, and was occurring annually at first. The 2001 event was held in conjunction with the Pan American Race Walking Cup. The name as well as the frequency of the competition were changed in 2004.
The 2008 South American Race Walking Championships were held in Cuenca, Ecuador, on March 15-16, 2008. The track of the championship runs in the Avenida España.
The Brazil national badminton team represents Brazil in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the Brazil Badminton Confederation, the governing body for badminton in Brazil. Brazil is one of South America's most active badminton nations. The team is a member of Badminton Pan America and the South American Badminton Confederation.
Carlos Martín Díaz del Río is a Chilean middle and long-distance runner. He holds the Chilean national record for the indoor and outdoor 1500 metres, the indoor 3000 metres, the 10,000 metres, the half marathon and the marathon. He was the gold medallist in the event at the South American Championships in Athletics in 2015.
The South and Central America Handball Confederation (SCAHC) (Spanish: Confederación Sur y Centro Americana de Balonmano (COSCABAL)) is the governing body of the Olympic sport of Handball and Beach handball in South America and Central America. It is affiliated to the International Handball Federation (IHF).
