Zhejiang is an eastern coastal province of the People's Republic of China. Its capital and largest city is Hangzhou, and other notable cities include Ningbo and Wenzhou. Zhejiang is bordered by Jiangsu and Shanghai to the north, Anhui to the northwest, Jiangxi to the west and Fujian to the south. To the east is the East China Sea, beyond which lies the Ryukyu Islands. The population of Zhejiang stands at 64.6 million, the 8th largest in China. It has been called "the backbone of China" because it is a major driving force in the Chinese economy and being the birthplace of several notable people, including the Chinese Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek and entrepreneur Jack Ma. Zhejiang consists of 90 counties.
Hangzhou, also romanized as Hangchow, is the capital and most populous city of Zhejiang, China. It is located in the northwestern part of the province, sitting at the head of Hangzhou Bay, which separates Shanghai and Ningbo. Hangzhou grew to prominence as the southern terminus of the Grand Canal and has been one of China's most renowned and prosperous cities for much of the last millennium. It is a major economic and e-commerce hub within China, and the second biggest city in the Yangtze Delta after Shanghai. Hangzhou is classified as a sub-provincial city and forms the core of the Hangzhou metropolitan area, the fourth-largest in China after Guangzhou-Shenzhen Pearl River agglomeration, Shanghai-Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou conurbation and Beijing. As of 2019, the Hangzhou metropolitan area was estimated to produce a gross metropolitan product (nominal) of 3.2 trillion yuan, making it larger than the economy of Nigeria. As of the 2020 Chinese census, it had a total population of 11,936,010 inhabitants. However, its metropolitan area, populated by 13.035 million people over an area of 8,107.9 km2 (3,130.5 sq mi), consists of all urban districts in Hangzhou and 3 urban districts of the city of Shaoxing.

Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport is the principal airport serving Hangzhou, a major city in the Yangtze River Delta region and the capital of Zhejiang Province, China. The airport is located on the southern shore of Qiantang River in Xiaoshan District and is 27 km (17 mi) east of downtown Hangzhou. Zhejiang cuisine, alternatively known as Zhe cuisine, is one of the Eight Culinary Traditions of Chinese cuisine. Zhejiang cuisine contains four different styles, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Ningbo, and Wenzhou. It derives from the traditional ways of cooking in Zhejiang Province, which is located south of Shanghai and centred around Hangzhou, a historical Chinese capital. In general, Zhejiang cuisine is not greasy but has a fresh and soft flavour with a mellow fragrance.

The games marked the 110th anniversary since the creation of the first continental event, starting with the 1913 Far Eastern Championship Games.
Hangzhou West railway station is a railway station located in Cangqian Subdistrict, Yuhang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. The station was opened on 22 September 2022.
Line 10 of the Hangzhou Metro is a metro line in Hangzhou. The line is 14.7 km (9.1 mi) long and will run between Huanglong Sports Center station in Xihu District and Yisheng Road station in Yuhang District up in the north, passing through west Hangzhou. Yisheng Road to Cuibai Road section of the line was opened on 21 February 2022. The one-station extension to Xueyuan Road was opened on 24 June 2022. The section from Xueyuan Road to Huanglong Sports Center was opened on 22 September 2022.
The 2022 Asian Para Games, also known as the IV Asian Para Games, and commonly known as the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, is a multi-sport event that parallels the 2022 Asian Games which will held for Asian athletes with disability in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China from 22 to 28 October 2023. Hangzhou will be the second Chinese city to host the Asian Para Games, after Guangzhou in 2010.
Hangzhou Spark is a Chinese professional Overwatch esports team based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The Spark compete in the Overwatch League (OWL) as a member of the league's East region. Founded in 2018, Hangzhou Spark began play as one of eight expansion teams in 2019 and is one of four professional Overwatch teams based in China. The team is owned by Bilibili, a Chinese video sharing website; the company also owns Bilibili Gaming, who operate their own Overwatch division that compete in Overwatch Contenders as an academy team for the Spark.

Cricket is one of the 37 sports being played at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Both men's and women's Twenty20 International tournaments were played. Prior to this edition, cricket was last played at the Asian Games in 2014. The Asian Games were originally planned to take place in September 2022, but were later postponed by one year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fourteen men's teams and nine women's teams took part. The teams were seeded based on ICC T20I Ranking as of 1st June 2023.
