Sexual harassment is a type of harassment involving the use of explicit or implicit sexual overtones,including the unwelcome and inappropriate promises of rewards in exchange for sexual favors. Sexual harassment includes a range of actions from verbal transgressions to sexual abuse or assault. Harassment can occur in many different social settings such as the workplace,the home,school,or religious institutions. Harassers or victims may be of any sex or gender.

This was the first year Sonoma State played intercollegiate football since they discontinued the program after the 1971 season. The team was led by head coach Milt Cerf. Cerf was an insurance broker,who had agreed to fund the program himself in 1979. Cerf led the 1979 "club" team to a 3–3 record against junior colleges and freshmen teams.

Andrew Cuomo,the 56th governor of New York,was accused of sexual harassment by multiple women starting in December 2020,with the accusations covering a range of alleged behavior. He denied all allegations and has apologized for his comments being interpreted as sexually charged. On February 28,2021,New York Attorney General Letitia James announced that she would hire and deputize a law firm to conduct an independent investigation into the allegations. On March 11,the New York State Assembly authorized an impeachment investigation into the allegations. In August 2021,James released an investigatory report which stated that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women during his time in office,with actions such as unwanted groping,kissing and sexual comments. The controversy surrounding these allegations culminated in Governor Cuomo's resignation from office.

Dominic Foppoli, is an American politician,accused serial rapist,and businessperson. He is the former Mayor of Windsor,California,a position he held from December 2018 until May 2021. Between April and May 2021,numerous women made sexual abuse and assault allegations against Foppoli dating back to 2002. Foppoli,who denies wrongdoing,is currently under investigation by the Attorney General of California. He is also under investigation for possible campaign finance violations by the California Fair Political Practices Commission. Foppoli refused to resign from office,causing a recall campaign to be launched in April 2021. Foppoli resigned from office on May 21,2021. In August 2021,Foppoli filed paperwork with intent to run for Mayor of Windsor for the November 2022 election.
