The speaker of the Parliament of Finland, along with two deputy speakers, is elected by Parliament during the first plenary session each year. Speakers are chosen for a year at a time. In addition to their preparing the work in plenary sessions the speakers also play a key role in Parliament's international co-operation, which includes visits by speakers and international delegations as well as participation in numerous interparliamentary organisations.
Aino Elin Malkamäki was a Finnish schoolteacher and politician. She was Minister of Social Affairs from 2 September to 29 November 1957 and a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1922 to 1929, from 1933 to 1958 and from 1960 until her death in 1961. She belonged at first to the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP) and later to the Social Democratic Union of Workers and Smallholders (TPSL).
Johannes (Juho) Koivisto was a Finnish farmer and politician. He served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture from 4 July 1930 to 21 March 1931 and from 12 March 1937 to 4 January 1941 and as Deputy Minister of Finance from 4 January 1941 to 5 March 1943. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1927 to 1951, representing the Agrarian League.
Petter (Pekka) Wilhelm Heikkinen was a Finnish farmer and politician. He served as Minister of Trade and Industry from 17 December 1927 to 22 December 1928 and from 16 August 1929 to 4 July 1930, as Deputy Minister of Agriculture from 21 March 1931 to 14 December 1932 and as Minister of Agriculture from 7 October 1936 to 15 August 1940. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1919 to 1922 and from 1924 to 1940, representing the Agrarian League. He served as the chairman of the Agrarian League from 1919 to 1940 and as Governor of Kuopio Province from 1940 to 1950.
Johannes (Juho) Lehmus was a Finnish shoemaker, smallholder and politician. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1916 until his death in 1918, representing the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP). During the Finnish Civil War, he sided with the Reds, was made prisoner by White troops and shot in Tampere on 6 April 1918.
Hedvig Maria Gebhard was a Finnish journalist and politician. She was a member of the Parliament of Finland, representing the Finnish Party from 1907 to 1909 and the National Coalition Party from 1919 to 1922 and again from 1924 to 1929. In 1922 she founded Kotiliesi, a family magazine.
