Julian Hosking

Julian Hosking (1953-1989) was a British ballet dancer and a former principal dancer with the Royal Ballet.

Hosking was born in Cornwall of a Viennese mother and Cornish father. He entered White Lodge aged 11 and progressed to the Royal Ballet School. [1] Joining the company in 1970, [1] he danced a wide range of roles across the Royal Ballet repertoire at Covent Garden from 1971 to 1986. [2] These included leads in Kenneth MacMillan's 1979 La Fin du jour and his 1980 Gloria for the Royal Ballet. He became a Principal in 1980. [1] He also danced in the premieres of Manon, Four Schumann Pieces, and Consort Lessons, and the first performances by the Royal Ballet of Liebeslieder Walzer, My Brother, My Sisters and Return to the Strange Land.

In 1983, Hosking danced a lead role in Glen Tetley's Dances of Albion: Dark Night Glad Day, and Anna Kisselgoff writing in the New York Times called him "the hero of the evening". [3]

Hosking took time away from the Royal Ballet from 1975 to 1977 to study Egyptology and art in Italy [1] with the artist, André Durand. Hosking who lived with Durand for eight years, was the subject of many paintings, the artist painted, both mythological (Miracles and Metamorphous) and portraits.

He may be seen as Edward Gordon Craig (a role he created) in the television filmed version of Isadora from 1982 (issued on DVD in 2011 by Odeon Entertainment, with the 1968 feature film Isadora) [4] and as Paris in the 1984 Royal Ballet film of Romeo and Juliet . [5]

Irek Dzhavdatovich Mukhamedov OBE, is a Soviet-born British ballet dancer of Tatar origin who has danced with the Bolshoi Ballet and the Royal Ballet. Born in Kazan, he trained at the Moscow Choreographic Institute under the guidance of Alexander Prokofiev between 1970 and 1978. Upon graduation, he joined the Classical Ballet Company, where he spent three years touring around the world. It was with this company that he first danced Romeo, a role that was to become one of his most acclaimed. In 1981 he won the Grand Prix and gold medal at the International Ballet Competition in Moscow and was immediately invited to join the Bolshoi Ballet as a principal dancer, where he not only became Grigorovich's favourite danseur but went to become the youngest man ever to dance the leading role in Spartacus.

Georgina Parkinson was an English ballet dancer and ballet mistress. She joined The Royal Ballet in 1957 and was promoted to principal dancer in 1962. Best known for dancing 20th-century works, she was a frequent collaborator of choreographer Kenneth MacMillan, and had also created roles for Frederick Ashton. In 1978, she accepted the invitation to become a ballet mistress at the American Ballet Theatre for a year, before assuming the position permanently in 1980. She also performed character roles with the American Ballet Theatre.

Cynthia Harvey is an American former ballet dancer, ballet mistress and educator. She joined the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) in 1974 and was promoted to principal dancer in 1982. In 1986, she joined The Royal Ballet, becoming the company's first American principal dancer. She returned to ABT two years later, and retired in 1996. She then started teaching and staging ballets across the world. In 2016, she was named artistic director of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, the affiliated school of ABT. She will step down from the position in May 2022.

Johan Renvall

Bengt Erik Johan Renvall was a Swedish dancer and choreographer active in the United States from 1978. He was known for "soaring leaps of astounding power and soft landing", of a mixture of extraordinary bravura and lyric nuances through his performances. His career, as "one of only a small group of elite dancers the world has known", began in 1972 when he was admitted to the Royal Swedish Ballet School. He then became a member of the Royal Swedish Ballet in 1977 and of American Ballet Theatre in 1978 where he later became principal dancer.

Isadora is a ballet created for the Royal Ballet by Kenneth MacMillan to music by Richard Rodney Bennett with a scenario by Gillian Freeman, based on the life and dance of Isadora Duncan.

Francesca Hayward English ballet dancer and actress

Francesca Hayward is a Kenyan-born English ballet dancer and actress. She is a principal dancer in the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden in London. In 2019, she starred as Victoria the White Cat in the musical film Cats, an adaptation of the stage musical of the same name.

Raymond Smith is a Canadian ballet dancer and teacher, who was a principal dancer of the National Ballet of Canada from 1980 to 1995.

Anna Rose OSullivan English ballet dancer

Anna Rose O'Sullivan is an English ballet dancer and is a principal dancer at the Royal Ballet. Her promotion to principal dancer took effect in September 2021.
