Julian Kennedy is a Welsh teacher, and has been the headmaster of Olchfa School, the largest secondary school in Swansea, Wales since 2023.
Kennedy was born and raised in Wales, and went to school in Swansea. He had an early interest in education. At school he participated in extracurricular activities including sports and student leadership, which shaped his belief in the importance of a holistic education. Kennedy studied education management at university and graduated with a degree in education leadership.
Kennedy has worked in schools in Wales since the 1990s. Starting as a teacher, he quickly moved into senior leadership.[ citation needed ] He worked as a deputy headmaster and head of department in several secondary schools. He was previously the assistant head of Olchfa School, and was deputy headteacher at Birchgrove Comprehensive before becoming the head of Dyffryn Taf in 2018. [1] [2]
In 2023, Kennedy became the headmaster of Olchfa School, overseeing its 1,700 pupils and promoting inclusive practices. He managed the opening of a £1.6 million all-weather 3G sports pitch at the school. [3] [ failed verification ]
Kennedy sits on the council of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) Cymru. [4] [5]
