Julian Skar (born 1981) is a Norwegian composer and multi-media artist. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Career

Skar studied composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Asbjørn Schaathun, Rolf Wallin and Ivar Frounberg. Skar has also studied composition at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Daniel Ott and Wolfgang Heiniger, focusing on new technology and music theatre. Skar has also studied piano and composition at the Grieg Academy in Bergen. [5]

Skar’s compositional output includes a number of works within electronic music and music theatre. Since his student days, Skar has maintained an equal footing in the contemporary as well as pop music worlds. [6] This has resulted in a diverse output that includes releases with artists such as Nils Bech [7] and Susanna Wallumrød. [8]

In 2008, Skar founded Ensemble neoN with Jan Martin Smørdal, and is currently the one half of the ensemble’s artistic directorship as well as its in-house composer. [9]

Gunnar Sønstevold was a Norwegian composer. He was born in Elverum, and married composer Maj Sønstevold in 1941. He composed orchestral works, vocal music, chamber music, and music to a number of plays, ballets and films. He headed the Music Department of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation/Television from 1966 to 1974. He was awarded Filmkritikerprisen in 1955, for the film Det brenner i natt!. He received the Arts Council Norway music prize in 1972, and Radioteatret's honorary prize in 1987.

Susanna and the Magical Orchestra is the moniker of singer Susanna Wallumrød and keyboard player Morten Qvenild. Their style of music can be described as quiet, slow pop mixed with elements from electronica and jazz. Susanna has a very distinct, clear and cool voice that stands much on its own, only accompanied by Morten on various keyboard instruments such as acoustic piano, synthesizers and even harpsichord and church organ. The duo is mostly known for their highly personal interpretations of well known songs such as Dolly Parton's "Jolene" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah".
