Julian Talbot (born 1961) is an Australian writer, speaker and consultant on risk management. He is co-author of the book Security Risk Management Body of Knowledge. [1] [2]

Australians nationality

Talbot graduated with a Master in Risk Management degree from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, in 2006. He is a Certified Protection Professional, the security industry's highest level of professional achievement. [3]

Monash University is a public research university based in Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 1958, it is the second oldest university in the State of Victoria. The university has a number of campuses, four of which are in Victoria, and one in Malaysia. Monash also has a research and teaching centre in Prato, Italy, a graduate research school in Mumbai, India and a graduate school in Suzhou, China. Monash University courses are also delivered at other locations, including South Africa.

Career

In the period 1995-2001, Talbot served as head of security for Woodside Energy's North West Shelf Venture, Australia's largest natural resources project. He then worked as head of risk and security for the Malaysia Smelting Corporation's Indonesian operations, as senior risk adviser for the Australian Department of Health and Ageing, and as head of security for the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade). From 2006 to 2009, he was the risk management practice leader for Jakeman Business Solutions (JBS), one of Australia's leading consulting firms. [4]

North West Shelf Venture

The North West Shelf Venture, situated in the north-west of Western Australia, is Australia's largest resource development project. It involves the extraction of petroleum at offshore production platforms, onshore processing and export of liquefied natural gas, and production of natural gas for industrial, commercial and domestic use within the state.

The Australian Federal Department of Health and Ageing was an Australian government department that existed between November 2001 and September 2013.

The Australian Trade and Investment Commission, or Austrade, is the Australian Government's trade, investment and education promotion agency. It is a statutory agency within the Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio, with offices in overseas embassies and consulates, and representative arrangements in some other locations.

From 2007 to 2015, he served as the chairman of Citadel Group Limited [5] and also was a member of its Audit Review Committee. [6]

Public service

Talbot served as director of the Risk Management Institution of Australasia (2006–09) and as director of the Australian Institute of Professional Intelligence Officers (2008–09). [7]

The Australian Institute of Professional Intelligence Officers is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to promote the intelligence profession in Australia. It was incorporated in 1990.

He was the director of the Security Analysis and Risk Management Association, based in Washington, DC from 2010 to 2015. [8]

Writing career

In 2009 Talbot co-authored the Security Risk Management Body of Knowledge, a large and comprehensive repository of knowledge, including the best practices, recent innovations and evolving research, in the area of security risk management. [9] [10]
