Air Marshal Sir Julian Alexander Young, KBE , CB , FREng , FIET , CCMI , FRAeS is a retired senior Royal Air Force (RAF) officer who served as Chief of Materiel (Air) at Defence Equipment and Support, concurrently holding the appointments of Air Member for Materiel on the Air Force Board and Chief Engineer (RAF).

Personal life

Young attended the Royal Latin School, Buckingham where he was head boy. [1]

RAF career

Young was commissioned into the RAF on 31 August 1980. [2] He became Station Commander at RAF Cosford in 2002. [3] He went on to be Assistant Chief of Staff at RAF Air Command in February 2007, Director of Defence Support Review in August 2009 and Chief of Staff Support at RAF Air Command in December 2010. [3] After that he became Technical Director & Chief Information Officer at Defence Equipment and Support in December 2012, Director Helicopters at Defence Equipment and Support in February 2015 [4] and Chief of Materiel (Air) at Defence Equipment and Support in April 2016, joining the Air Force Board as Air Member for Materiel and Chief Engineer (RAF). [5]

On 1 October 2021, he was appointed as the 140th President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. [6]

Young was appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 2013 New Year Honours [7] and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2016. [8] He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in the 2020 New Year Honours. [9]

Stuart Peach Royal Air Force officer

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart William Peach, is a former senior Royal Air Force officer. After training as a navigator, Peach commanded IX (Bomber) Squadron and then became Deputy Station Commander RAF Bruggen. He was deployed as NATO Air Commander (Forward) in Kosovo in 2000. He went on to be Chief of Defence Intelligence in 2006, Chief of Joint Operations in 2009 and the first Commander of Joint Forces Command in December 2011 before being appointed Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff in May 2013. Peach succeeded General Sir Nick Houghton as Chief of the Defence Staff on 14 July 2016. He succeeded General Petr Pavel as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee on 29 June 2018, serving as such until his retirement in June 2021.

Stuart Atha RAF Air Marshal

Air Marshal Sir Stuart David Atha, is a former senior officer of the Royal Air Force. He led No. 3 (Fighter) Squadron from 2000 to 2004, which included deployment to Iraq on Operation Telic, commanded RAF Coningsby (2006–08), No. 83 Expeditionary Air Group (2009–10) and No. 1 Group (2011–14), and served as the Air Component Commander for security during the 2012 London Olympics. Atha was Deputy Commander Operations from 2016 to 2019.

Andrew Pulford

Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Douglas Pulford, is a retired senior Royal Air Force (RAF) commander. A helicopter pilot with operational service in Northern Ireland, the Falklands War and Iraq War, Pulford commanded RAF Odiham and No. 2 Group, and served as Assistant Chief of Defence Staff Operations, before taking up the post of Deputy Commander-in-Chief Personnel at Air Command and Air Member for Personnel in 2010. He became Chief of the Air Staff on 31 July 2013, retiring from the Royal Air Force on 12 July 2016.

Air Marshal Sir Kevin James Leeson, is a retired Royal Air Force engineer officer, whose final appointment was as Chief of Materiel – Air at the Defence Equipment and Support organisation, concurrently holding the appointments of Air Member for Materiel on the Air Force Board and Chief Engineer (RAF), at which point he was the most senior non-aircrew officer in the service.

Stephen Hillier

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen John Hillier, is a retired senior Royal Air Force officer, who served as Chief of the Air Staff from 2016 to 2019. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for actions in the Gulf in 1999 and was awarded the United States Bronze Star Medal for service in the Iraq War. He went on to be Air Officer Commanding No. 2 Group, Director Information Superiority at the Ministry of Defence, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff (Capability) and finally Chief of the Air Staff from July 2016. He was appointed chair of the Civil Aviation Authority in 2020.

Air Marshal Sir Simon John Bollom, is a retired senior Royal Air Force (RAF) officer who is currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of Defence Equipment and Support.

Edward Stringer

Air Marshal Edward Jackson Stringer, is a senior Royal Air Force officer. Since April 2018 he has served as Director-General of the Defence Academy. He also served as Director-General of Joint Force Development, Strategic Command from April 2018 to March 2021. He served as Assistant Chief of the Air Staff from April 2013 to January 2015, and as Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff (Operations) from March 2015 to 2018.

David Anthony Hobart, is a British executive, aeronautical engineer, and former Royal Air Force (RAF) officer. Having been commissioned into the RAF in 1972, he reached the rank of air vice-marshal and served as Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff (Policy) from 2001 to 2004. Following retirement from the military, he was chief executive of the Bar Council from 2004 to 2011, and has been chief executive of the City of London Law Society since 2011. He has also been a Gentleman Usher to Queen Elizabeth II since 2007.
