Prof. Dr. Juliana Latifi is an Albanian professor, judge and chair of Albania's Competition Authority.

Life

Latifi graduated in Law from the University of Tirana in 1991 and in 1997 she completed her doctorate at the same institution. From 2000 to 2002 she was completing post doc work at the Robert Schuman University in Strasbourg. [1]

Prof. Dr Juliana Latifi was appointed by the government in 2016 to lead Albania's Competition Authority. [1] She took over from Lindita Milo who had served her five-year term of office. Latifi was proposed for the role by 28 members of parliament and she will serve for five years. [2] At the end of 2019 she announced that the Competition Authority was taking over control of pharmaceuticals after an investigation of hospital management. [3]

Latifi is a well paid public official and in 2020 she was amongst ministers, members of parliaments and senior justice department officials who agreed to take 50% wage cut to help fund the country's contribution to the cost of the COVID-19 pandemic. [4]

The English-language mid-tempo power rock ballad was composed and written by Olsa Toqi. An accompanying music video was premiered to the official YouTube channel of the Eurovision Song Contest on 13 March 2016. The song represented Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden, after Tarifa's victory at the country's pre-selection competition Festivali i Këngës with the song's Albanian-language version "Përrallë". It failed to qualify for the grand final also marking the country's sixth non-qualification in the contest. During her minimalistic performance, she was accompanied by three backing vocalists while the LED screens showed a variety of gold images.

The Competition Authority (AK) is a government agency in Albania acting to ensure a free, effective and competitive market, pursuant to the Law "On Protection of Competition". The agency functions as a promoter and advocate of fair competition and consumer interests in the country, with the ultimate goal of generating the development of a healthy competitive market.

Albania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with the song "Karma" performed by Anxhela Peristeri. Its entry was selected through the national selection competition Festivali i Këngës organised by Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) in December 2020. To this point, the nation had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest sixteen times since its first entry in 2004. Prior to the contest, the song was promoted by a music video and various television and radio appearances in Albania, Greece, Kosovo and San Marino.

Gathsaurie Neelika Malavige is a Sri Lankan academic, university professor, researcher and scientist. She currently serves as the head as well as the professor at the Department of Immunology and Molecular Sciences of the Sri Jayawardenepura University, Faculty of Medical Sciences since 2020. She also currently serves as a visiting lecturer at University of Oxford since 2008. She is married to Lasantha Malavige who is regarded as Sri Lanka's first sexologist.
