The Western Cape is a province of South Africa,situated on the south-western coast of the country. It is the fourth largest of the nine provinces with an area of 129,449 square kilometres (49,981 sq mi),and the third most populous,with an estimated 7 million inhabitants in 2020. About two-thirds of these inhabitants live in the metropolitan area of Cape Town,which is also the provincial capital. The Western Cape was created in 1994 from part of the former Cape Province. The two largest cities are Cape Town and George.
The Democratic Alliance is a South African political party and the official opposition to the ruling African National Congress (ANC). The party is broadly centrist,and has been attributed both centre-left and centre-right policies. It is a member of Liberal International and the Africa Liberal Network. The DA traces its roots to the founding of the anti-apartheid Progressive Party in 1959,with many mergers and name changes between that time and the present. The DA ideologically shows a variety of liberal tendencies,including social liberalism,classical liberalism,and conservative liberalism.
The National Assembly is the directly elected house of the Parliament of South Africa,located in Cape Town,Western Cape Province. It consists of four hundred members who are elected every five years using a party-list proportional representation system where half of the members are elected proportionally from 9 provincial lists and the remaining half from national lists so as to restore proportionality.
General elections were held in South Africa on 22 April 2009 to elect members of the National Assembly and provincial legislatures. These were the fourth general elections held since the end of the apartheid era.
The Congress of the People (COPE) is a South African political party formed in 2008 by former members of the African National Congress (ANC). The party was founded by former ANC members Mosiuoa Lekota,Mbhazima Shilowa and Mluleki George to contest the 2009 general election. The party was announced following a national convention held in Sandton on 1 November 2008,and was founded at a congress held in Bloemfontein on 16 December 2008. The name echoes the 1955 Congress of the People at which the Freedom Charter was adopted by the ANC and other parties,a name strongly contested by the ANC in a legal move dismissed by the Pretoria High Court.
Although the Democratic Alliance of South Africa in its present form is fairly new,its roots can be traced far back in South African political history,through a complex sequence of splits and mergers.
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature is the legislature of the South African province of Gauteng. It is a unicameral body of 73 members elected every five years. The current legislature,the sixth,was elected on 8 May 2019 and has an African National Congress majority of 37 members. The legislature is housed in Johannesburg City Hall in central Johannesburg.
General elections were held in South Africa on 7 May 2014,to elect a new National Assembly and new provincial legislatures in each province. It was the fifth election held in South Africa under conditions of universal adult suffrage since the end of the apartheid era in 1994,and also the first held since the death of Nelson Mandela. Willem Abraham Stephanus Aucamp,known as Willie Aucamp,is a South African politician from the Northern Cape. He has been a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since 2019. He is one of six permanent delegates from the province. Aucamp is a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA). Aucamp is also the son of former MP Cassie Aucamp.
Winnie Ngwenya is a South African politician,African National Congress (ANC) member and a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since 2019. She is a member of the Gauteng provincial delegation in the legislature. Ngwenya served as a Member of the National Assembly from 2005 until 2014. Ngwenya has been mentioned at the ongoing State Capture inquiry.
Bertha Peace Mabe is a South African politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since February 2017. She previously served in the National Assembly from May 2014 until August 2016. She served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Gauteng between May 2009 and April 2014. Mabe is a member of the African National Congress and the party's unsuccessful 2016 Mogale City mayoral candidate.
Audrey Winifred Morakane Ketlhoilwe Mosupyoe,known as Morakane Mosupyoe,is a South African politician serving as the Gauteng MEC for Social Development since December 2020. She was the MEC for Economic Development,Agriculture and Environment from October 2019 to December 2020. Prior to her election to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in 2019,she served as a Tshwane city councillor. Mosupyoe is a member of the African National Congress.
Annah Gela is a South African politician of the African National Congress (ANC) who has been a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since May 2019.
Gauteng is one of the nine multi-member constituencies of the National Assembly of South Africa,the lower house of the Parliament of South Africa,the national legislature of South Africa. The constituency was established as Pretoria–Witwatersrand–Vereeniging in 1994 when the National Assembly was established by the Interim Constitution following the end of Apartheid. It was renamed Gauteng in 1999. It is conterminous with the province of Gauteng. The constituency currently elects 48 of the 400 members of the National Assembly using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2019 general election it had 6,381,220 registered electors.

A member of the African National Congress,she has served as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Women,Youth and People with Disabilities since 2019 and has been a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2014. She served as Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Filling of Vacancies in the Commission for Gender Equality twice during her first term in parliament. Prior to her election to parliament,Ndaba served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2014.
Bernice Swarts is a South African politician who is a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the African National Congress,serving since 2019.
Gerhardus Willem Koornhof is a South African politician and economist who serves as the Parliamentary Counsellor to President Cyril Ramaphosa. When Ramaphosa served as deputy president,Koornhof was his parliament counsellor. An MP since 1994,Koornhof currently represents the African National Congress,though he previously represented United Democratic Movement between 1999 and 2003 and the National Party/New National Party before that.
Vuyisile Promise Malomane is a South African politician and a member of the National Assembly of South Africa from Mpumalanga. She is a member of the African National Congress.
