Justin V. Parish (born August 27,1980) is an American politician who served for one term in the Alaska House of Representatives. [1] [2] His family includes Tlingit people. In 2017,"Representative Justin Parish,a first-time legislator,introduced himself in Tlingit and acknowledged his own Native heritage. His paternal grandmother is a member of the Dog Salmon clan." [3]
Parish was elected to the Alaska House in 2017,defeating Republican incumbent Cathy Muñoz in 2016. After opting not to seek re-election,he endorsed the candidacy of his chief of staff,Juneau Borough Assemblyman Rob Edwardson,to succeed him. [1] The 2018 general election was won by another Democrat,Andi Story. Parish represented Alaska's thirty-fourth district,which encompasses parts of Juneau,Alaska,including the Mendenhall Valley,Auke Bay, Out the road ,and Airport areas. [4]
The City and Borough of Juneau,more commonly known simply as Juneau,is the capital city of the U.S. state of Alaska. Located in the Gastineau Channel and the Alaskan panhandle,it is a consolidated city-borough and the second-largest city in the United States by area. Juneau was named the capital of Alaska in 1906,when the government of what was then the District of Alaska was moved from Sitka as dictated by the U.S. Congress in 1900. It is one of two primary high schools for the Juneau School District,the other being Thunder Mountain High School. While Juneau-Douglas High School primarily serves students in Douglas and downtown Juneau,students in the district are free to attend either high school,and make their selection during their final months of eighth grade. Thunder Mountain High School is roughly the same size,but primarily serves students from the Mendenhall Valley. As of the 2021–2022 school year,Paula Casperson is the principal.
Nora Marks Keixwnéi Dauenhauer was a Tlingit poet,short-story writer,and Tlingit language scholar from Alaska. She won an American Book Award for Russians in Tlingit America:The Battles of Sitka,1802 And 1804. Nora was Alaska State Writer Laureate from 2012 - 2014.
Elizabeth Peratrovich was an American civil rights activist,Grand President of the Alaska Native Sisterhood,and member of the Tlingit nation who worked for equality on behalf of Alaska Natives. In the 1940s,her advocacy was credited as being instrumental in the passing of Alaska's Anti-Discrimination Act of 1945,the first state or territorial anti-discrimination law enacted in the United States.

Catherine Norah "Cathy" Muñoz is an American politician who was a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives,who from 2009 to 2017 represented the 34th District. She served as Co-Chair of the Community and Regional Affairs Committee,Vice-Chair of the Education Committee,and served two terms on the House Finance Committee. She served as Co-Chair of the Community &Regional Affairs Committee and Vice-Chair of the Education Committee. Muñoz has been a small business owner since 1988. She was appointed by Governor Michael J. Dunleavy in 2018 to serve as the Deputy Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Muñoz was a third-generation member of the Alaska Legislature. Her father served in the Alaska House and Senate,her grandfather as the mayor of Douglas,Alaska and in the Territorial and State Senates,and her grandmother served in the Territorial House.

Zach Fansler is an American politician. He served on the Bethel City Council from 2014 to 2016,and in the Alaska House of Representatives from the 38th District from 2017 to 2018. He was first elected to the House in 2016,defeating Majority Whip Bob Herron in the Democratic primary. Fansler resigned on February 12,2018,due to allegations of assault.

She also served on the board of directors of the Sealaska regional Native corporation for 30 years,beginning in 1987,including as board vice president. The corporation,with more than 22,000 shareholders,founded the heritage institute and provides substantial funding.
