K. Balakrishnan is an Indian politician and a former member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Chidambaram constituency. He represents the Communist Party of India (Marxist) party. [1] He is the Former Secretary of CPI(M) Tamil Nadu. [2]
From his college days in Annamalai University,he was involved in politics and is continuously fighting against injustice and working for people's welfare.
On 2 September 2015,Balakrishnan was arrested for refusing to call off a protest at a train station as part of a strike. He later complained of uneasiness and was taken to the Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital at Chidambaram where he was treated for his illness. [3] He served as the State Secretary of CPI(M) Tamil Nadu from February 21 2018 to January 5,2025. [4] .

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was an Indian politician of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was the secretary of the CPI(M) Kerala State Committee from 2015 to 2022. He stepped down from the position of state secretary due to his failing health. He was the Chief Editor of the Malayalam newspaper Deshabhimani.

The eighth legislative assembly election for Tamil Nadu was held on 24 December 1984. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won the election and its general secretary,incumbent M. G. Ramachandran (M.G.R) was sworn in as Chief Minister,for the third time. The election victory was mainly attributed to the sympathy wave created by Indira Gandhi's assassination and M.G.R's illness coupled with Rajiv Gandhi's popularity. This is the last election M.G.R contested as he died in office in 1987. This is also the only General Election which M. Karunanidhi did not contest since 1957 until his death. As now,this is the last election where the ruling party gained seats.
J. Hemachandran was an Indian politician and trade unionist. He was a leading personality of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the state of Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu from the Thiruvattar constituency four times,in 1980,1984,1989 and 2001. He served as the leader of the CPI(M) group in the Assembly.

David Pandian was an Indian Tamil politician who served as Member of Parliament elected from Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Lok Sabha as an Indian National Congress–United Communist Party of India (UCPI) candidate from North Chennai constituency in 1989 and 1991 elections. He was the Tamil Nadu State Secretary of the Communist Party of India for three consecutive terms from 2005 to 2015,when he was succeeded by R. Mutharasan.
