K. Govindaraj is a politician and sports administrator from Karnataka. He is a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council representing Indian National Congress. [1]
Govindaraj hails from Bangalore. He played sports during his college days. [1] He is a post graduate in political science and also did a diploma in Public Relations.[ citation needed ]
Govindaraj began his political journey in 1999 contesting the Shivajinagar Assembly constituency as a candidate of the Indian National Congress. He lost the 1999 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election losing to Katta Subramanya Naidu of BJP by a margin of 10,553 votes. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly constituency in 2012. [1] [2] He served as the parliamentary secretary to the Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah [3] from 2015 to 2018. He is also the political secretary of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah [4] [5] again during the Congress government from 2023. [1] He also held the position as Syndicate Member,Kuvempu University and government nominee on the board of directors of Bangalore Water Supply Sewage Board (BWSSB). In the late nineties,he served as an Officer on Special Duty in the Legislative Council for chairman D. B. Kalmakar. [5] In February 2017,Income Tax department held a raid at his residence. [6] He is reportedly close to the Congress Party leaders and is said to be one of the party's fund raisers. [7] [5]
Govindaraj is also serving as the as president of FIBA Asia [8] [9] from 2023 to 2027 on a rotation basis as a nominee of South Asian Basketball Association. [10] Earlier,he also held the post of the president of the Basketball Federation of India from 2023 to 2024 [11] and the Karnataka Olympic Association. [12] The other roles he held as sports administrator include secretary,Karnataka State Basketball Association and member of Sports Authority of Karnataka. He was the selection committee member for Indian basketball teams during 2000 to 2007.[ citation needed ]
The Janata Dal (Secular) (transl. People's Party (Secular);abbr.JD(S)) is an Indian political party recognised as a state party in the Indian states of Karnataka,Kerala and Arunachal Pradesh. It was founded by the former prime minister of India H. D. Deve Gowda in July 1999 as a breakaway faction from the Janata Dal.
Siddaramaiah,also referred to by his nickname Siddu,is an Indian politician who is serving as the 22nd Chief Minister of Karnataka from 20 May 2023. He also held that position previously from 2013 to 2018,being only the second person to hold that office for a full five-year term. He belongs to the Indian National Congress and is presently the leader of the Congress Legislative Party. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on two occasions,from 2019 to 2023 and from 2009 to 2013. Siddaramaiah was a member of various Janata Parivar factions for several years.
Although India is a parliamentary democracy,the country's politics has become dynastic or with high level of nepotism,possibly due to the absence of party organizations,independent civil-society associations which mobilize support for a party,or centralized financing of elections. The dynastic phenomenon is present at the national,state,regional,and district level. The Nehru–Gandhi family has produced three Indian prime ministers,and family members have largely led the Congress party since 1978. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also has several dynastic leaders. Jagadish Shivappa Shettar is an Indian politician,who served as the 15th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2012 to 2013. He is currently serving as Member of Karnataka Legislative Council. He has subsequently served as Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He also served as the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly during 2008–2009. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier in 2023 he had joined the Indian National Congress,where he quit the BJP on being denied the MLA ticket in 2023. He represented Hubli-Dharwad Central Vidhan Sabha seat,which he resigned in 2023 before the elections. In March 2024,he was announced as the BJP candidate from the Belgaum Constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

K. C. Venugopal is an Indian politician who is a Member of Parliament,Lok Sabha elected from Alappuzha Lok Sabha constituency and former member of parliament in Upper House and is a member of the Indian National Congress. He has been appointed a General Secretary of AICC and in charge of Karnataka on 29 April 2017. Later,he was given additional charge of the general secretary of the organization. He was the Minister of State for Civil Aviation &Ministry of Power in the UPA Government.
