Kadakkavoor Pachan Brahmanandan (Malayalam:കടയ്ക്കാവൂർ പാച്ചൻ ബ്രഹ്മാനന്ദൻ; 22 February 1946 – 10 August 2004) was a South Indian playback singer from Kerala. [1]

Personal life

Brahmanandan was born in Kadakkavoor, which is located north of Trivandrum district in Kerala, on 22 February 1946. His parents were Pachan and Bhavani. He was the third child of his parents, who totally had eight children. He began to study Carnatic music since a young age, firstly from his uncle Kadakkavoor Sundaram Bhagavathar, and later from the eminent musician D. K. Jayaraman. Brahmanandan was the father of Rakesh Brahmanandan, another Malayalam singer. [2]

Brahmanandan died at his home in Kadakkavoor on 10 August 2004, at the age of 58. [1]

Awards

Brahmanandan has received All-India Radio Award in 1965, Critics Award in 1999, and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award in 2002. [3] [4]

Career

He also sang for a dozen Tamil films, for composers such as Ilaiyaraja...Santha Kavigal for Tamil movie "Metti" from Director Mahendran and Shankar–Ganesh, and composed the music for two movies, `Malayathi Pennu' and `Kanni Nilaavu'. [1]

"Brahmanandan Foundation", constituted in memory of Brahmanandan encourages projects that promote values in line with particular interests that are well informed, that have clearly defined goals, and that are innovative and risk-taking, while acknowledging traditional standards of excellence and responsibility to the music. [5] The foundation has also constituted Brahmanandan memorial award, for excellence in Music. [6]

K. Raghavan, also fondly called Raghavan Master, was a Malayalam music composer and Carnatic Vocalist. Along with G. Devarajan, V. Dakshinamoorthy and Baburaj, Raghavan is often credited for the renaissance of Malayalam film music. He is regarded as the pioneer in contributing Malayalam film songs with its own tunes and styles. Till then, Malayalam film songs were in the tunes of popular Hindi and Tamil film songs and old classical kritis. Raghavan gave a new direction and identity to Malayalam film music. He composed around 400 songs in Malayalam cinema and was active in the Malayalam film industry for nearly four decades. In 1997, he was honoured with the J. C. Daniel Award, Kerala government's highest honour for contributions to Malayalam cinema.

S. Ramesan Nair was an Indian lyricist and poet who worked predominantly in the Malayalam film industry. Over his career he wrote songs for over 170 films and over 3,000 devotional songs outside of the films. He debuted with the movie Pathamudhayam in 1985. He was a recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2010 and the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 2018 for his collection of poems Gurupournami.

The Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Fellowship is an honour presented by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, an autonomous organisation for the encouragement, preservation, and documentation of the performing arts of Kerala, set up by the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Kerala. Instituted in 1972, the fellowships are given to outstanding artistes who have contributed to the performing arts in the state. C. L. Jose, in full Chakkalakal Lonappan Jose, is an Indian playwright of Malayalam literature. One of the pioneers of popular Malayalam theatre and a former chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, Jose is the author of 36 plays, 75 one-act plays, one children's play and Ormakalkku Urakkamilla, his autobiography. He is a recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Drama, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Fellowship and S.
