K. Rangaraj is an Indian film director and screenwriter and producer who was active in Tamil cinema mainly in the 1980s.

Career

Rangaraj was born in a village near Kovilpatti. While searching for job in Chennai, he decided to join Tamil film industry after being influenced by films directed by K. Balachander. [1] He struck friendship with M. G. Vallabhan who introduced him to Bharathiraja. Rangaraj who went to assist Bharathiraja in various films made his directorial debut with Nenjamellam Nee in 1983. The film became successful and Rangaraj went on to direct successful films like Unnai Naan Sandhithen (1984), Udhaya Geetham (1985) Geethanjali (1985) and Paadu Nilave (1987). [1] However subsequent failures like Dharmam Vellum (1989) and Ellaichami (1992) which he also produced led him in a financial crunch which also led him to leave films completely and directed serials for sometime. [2] [3] After a gap of 31 years, he will be making his comeback as director with Konjam Kadhal Konjam Modhal with Srikanth. [4]

The film stars Mohan, Lakshmi and Revathi, with Goundamani, Senthil, Anand Babu, and Prathapachandran in supporting roles. It revolves around a singer who is facing a death sentence for a murder he did not commit, and the efforts of a young girl to clear his name. The film was released on 13 April 1985 and was a commercial success, running for 148 days in theatres and thereby becoming a silver jubilee film.

Vietnam Veedu Sundaram was an Indian playwright, screenwriter and film director. Stunt masters and actors like Rocky Rajesh, Thalapathy Dinesh, Ponnambalam, Ram Laxman, Kundrathur Babu, Indian Baskar, Rajasekhar, Dhilip Subbarayan, Thavasiraj, and Dinesh Subbarayan have worked as fighters and assistants to him. His sons, Dhilip Subbarayan and Dinesh Subbarayan, are also leading stunt masters. He has won four Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Stunt Coordinator.

It was released on 23 October 1984 and became a success. The film was remade in Hindi as Sindoor (1987) and in Telugu as Sumangali (1989).

R. Selvaraj, also credited as "Annakili" Selvaraj, is an Indian screenwriter and director. He worked predominantly in the Tamil film industry, as well as in very few Tollywood, and Kannada film industries. His most famous film is Annakili. Vijayakanth's film career started with Selvaraj's 1979 release Agal Vilakku. He appeared in Doorathu Idi Muzhakkam. Selvaraj also worked closely with Barathiraja and Manirathnam. His son Dinesh Selvaraj is a director who has made films like Thuppakki Munai.

M. G. Vallabhan (1943–2004) was an Indian journalist, poet and screenwriter. Though born in Kerala, he wrote primarily in Tamil.
