The Dutch Marathon Championships is a speed skating event composed of two championships. One on natural ice and one on artificial ice.

Contents

Natural ice

The championship was skated for the first time in 1979. In the next 33 years the championship could be organized only 13 times. The last edition was skated in 2012 at the Grote Rietplas in Emmen. The skating event is held each winter season (if possible) and it is possible for the event to take place twice in the same year.

Dries van Wijhe and Jorrit Bergsma are the only male skaters who have won the championships twice. Alida Pasveer is the only female skater to win twice. One skater, Rudi Groenendal won the veteran's championship three times.

Sven Kramer is a retired Dutch long track speed skater who has won an all time record nine World Allround Championships as well as a record ten European Allround Championships. Jan Maarten Heideman is a Dutch speed skater who specialises in marathon speed skating.

Daniëlle Bekkering is a Dutch marathon speed skater, short track speed skater, and cyclist who currently lives in Den Ham (Groningen). Bekkering has several nicknames like Beeks, Daantje and Dikkie Dik. Her sister Eyelien is also a cyclist.

The 2009 KNSB Dutch Single Distance Championships was held from Friday 31 October until Sunday 2 November 2008 at the Thialf ice stadium in Heerenveen. Although the championships were held in 2008 it was the 2009 edition as it is part of the 2008–2009 speed skating season.

The men's Mass Start at the 2023 KNSB Dutch Single Distance Championships took place in Heerenveen at the Thialf ice skating rink on Sunday 5 February 2023. There were 22 participants. Jorrit Bergsma and Harm Visser qualified for the 2023 ISU World Speed Skating Championships in Heerenveen.
