KR. RM. Kariya Manickam Ambalam was an Indian politician, social worker, and former Member of the Legislative Assembly.

Personal life

Ambalam was the only son of Ramasamy Ambalam. He was born in the small village of Kappallur, Devakottai taluk, Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu, where his family were wealthy landlords.[ citation needed ] He had one son, K. R. Ramasamy, who followed him into politics, [1] and three daughters.[ citation needed ]

Politics

Ambalam acted as a popular leader for over 100 villages and a few towns. He was a close friend to Pasumpon Muthuramalingam Thevar.[ citation needed ]

He was elected four times: [2] to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly in 1957 as an independent candidate, [3] in the 1962 and 1967 elections as a Swatantra Party candidate, [4] [5] and in the 1977 election as an Indian National Congress candidate for Tiruvadanai. [5]

After he died, village people under Karur Nadu and Kappallor Nadu erected two bronze statue in Karur and Kannankudi.[ citation needed ]

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is a political party in India, particularly in the state of Tamil Nadu and union territory of Puducherry. It is currently the Opposition party in Tamil Nadu and is part of the Indian political front the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). 1952 Madras Legislative Assembly election

The first legislative assembly Election to the Madras state based on universal adult suffrage was held in March 1952. This was the first election held in Madras state after the Indian Independence. This election was officially known as the 1951 Madras State Election, even though through delays, actual voting didn't take place until early 1952.

1957 Madras Legislative Assembly election

The second legislative assembly election to the Madras state was held on 31 March 1957. This was the first election held after the linguistic reorganization of Madras state in 1954. Indian National Congress and its leader K. Kamaraj won the election, and defeated its rival Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In 1954, due to the resignation of C. Rajagopalachari, for his controversial Kula Kalvi Thittam, the leadership of Congress was contested, between K. Kamaraj, and C. Subramaniam. Eventually, K. Kamaraj, won the support of the party, was elected leader and chief minister of Madras State in 1954. In a surprise move, he appointed both M. Bhaktavatsalam and C. Subramaniam, in his cabinet, allowing great unity amongst Congress, that ruled the state of Madras, for the next decade. This election saw future DMK leaders, M. Karunanidhi and K. Anbazhagan winning their first MLA seat in the legislative assembly.

1962 Madras Legislative Assembly election

The third legislative assembly election to the Madras state was held on 21 February 1962. The Indian National Congress party, led by K. Kamaraj, won the election. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam made significant in-roads in the election and emerged as the second party for the first time by winning 50 seats.

Ramasamy Thamaraikani was a politician from Tamil Nadu and a Member of Legislative Assembly. He was elected to Tamil Nadu state assembly five times from Srivilliputhur constituency, three times as an Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) candidate under M. G. Ramachandran, once as an independent and once as an ADMK candidate under Jayalalitha. He has been referred to as maverick and irrepressible by media.

K. Ravi Arunan is an Indian politician and was a Member of the Legislative Assembly. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly as an Indian National Congress (INC) candidate from Ambasamudram constituency in the 1989 election and from Tenkasi constituency as a Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) (TMC) candidate in the 1996 election.

M. Abdul Lathief, was an Indian who had been chairman of Tamil Nadu Wakf Board and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Tamil Nadu.He was a former leader of Indian union Muslim league and later he resigned from it

S. Gandhirajan was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A) of Tamil Nadu. He was elected to represent the constituency Vedasandur, then a constituency of dindigul district, in the election of 1991 During his period as MLA, He also held the position as the chairman of the "Tamilnadu Water and drainage Board department" (1992–1993) and also as the deputy speaker of the legislative assembly from 1993 to 1996.

S. Hemalatha Devi is an Indian independence activist, social worker and member of the Indian National Congress. She represented Pennagaram in the Madras Legislative Assembly (1957–62).
