Kagitumba is a town in Rwanda. It is located at the extreme North Eastern extremity at the confluence of the Kagitumba River and Akagera River. This location is also the tri-point border between Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania.

Location

Kagitumba is located in Nyagatare District, Eastern Province, at the border with the Republic of Uganda. Its location lies very close and is immediately west of the geographical point where the International borders of Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda intersect. This location is approximately 38 kilometres (24 mi), by road, northeast of Nyagatare, the location of the district headquarters. [1] Kagitumba lies approximately 136 kilometres (85 mi), by road, northeast of Kigali, the capital of Rwanda and the largest city in that country. [2] The coordinates of the town are:1° 4' 20.00"S, 30° 27' 0.00"E (Latitude:-1.072223; Longitude:30.450000).

Overview

Kagitumba is one of the major border crossing points between Rwanda and Uganda; the other being Gatuna. Currently, plans are underway to integrate customs and immigration clearance procedures between the two countries, to create a one-stop clearance mechanism in both directions. When formalised, the new process will dramatically cut down waiting times for both human and commercial traffic between the two East African Community member countries. [3] [4]

Rusumo Hydroelectric Power Station dam in Rusumo Falls, Kirehe District

The Rusumo Hydroelectric Power Station, also known as the Rusumo Power Station, is a hydropower plant under construction, with initial planned capacity installation of 80 megawatts (110,000 hp) when completed. The project will involve the construction of a dam, with run of river design. A more expensive 90 megawatts (120,000 hp) reservoir design was considered before being abandoned in favor of an 80 MW project with a smaller environmental impact and an estimated cost of US$300 million compared to US$400 million for the bigger project. The World Bank announced on 6 August 2013 that it had approved loans totaling US$340 million towards the US$468.60 million needed for the project. In November 2013, the African Development Bank approved a loan of US$113 million towards completion of the project.

Rusumo, is a town in Kirehe District in the Eastern Province of Rwanda.

The Kagitumba is a river on the border of Rwanda and Uganda part of the upper headwaters of the Nile. Kagitumba is the name taken by the Muvumba river for its last stretch before it empties in the Akagera River. The river is only 39 km and is located on the North Eastern extremity of Rwanda. For its entire length, it forms the border of Rwanda and Uganda. Despite its short length, this is one of the major rivers of Rwanda. Its drainage basin covers 3500 km2 and spans parts of Gicumbi, Gatsibo and Nyagatare District Districts in Rwanda, and Kabale and Ntungamo Districts in Uganda.

Muvumba is a river in northeastern of Rwanda and southwestern Uganda. It is part of the upper headwaters of the Nile. At 170 km long, it is one of the major rivers of Rwanda both in size and economic importance. Its upper course provides water for tea plantations in the high altitudes of north Rwanda and southwestern Uganda. Its lower course provides water for the dry areas of Nyagatare, facilitating irrigation of rice fields and other crops as well as providing water for cattle in this area for cattle farming.

The Uganda Standard Gauge Railway is a planned railway system linking the country to the neighboring countries of Kenya, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan. The new Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), is intended to replace the old, inefficient metre-gauge railway system.

Rusumo is a town in northwestern Tanzania, at the border with Rwanda. It sits across the Kagera River from Rusumo, Rwanda.

The Rwanda Standard Gauge Railway is a railway system, under development, linking the country to the neighboring countries of Tanzania and Uganda. The system is expected to link, in the future, to Rwanda's two other neighbors, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Through Uganda, the SGR will allow, faster access to the Kenyan port of Mombasa, Rwanda's primary access to the oceans. With no previously existing railway network, Rwanda is developing its railway system from scratch.

Cyanika Rwandan town

Cyanika is a populated settlement in Rwanda. It sits adjacent to Kyanika, across the international border with neighboring Uganda. Cyanika, also refers to Cyanika Sector, one of the 17 administrative divisions of Burera District.
