Kai Henrik Twilfer (born 1976, Gelsenkirchen, West Germany) is a German merchant and author.

Gelsenkirchen is the 11th largest city of Germany's most populous federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and its 262,528 (2016) inhabitants make it the 25th largest city of Germany. On the Emscher River, it lies at the centre of the Ruhr, the largest urban area of Germany, of which it is the fifth largest city after Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg and Bochum. The Ruhr is located in the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Region, one of Europe's largest urban areas. Gelsenkirchen is the fifth largest city of Westphalia after Dortmund, Bochum, Bielefeld and Münster, and it is one of the southernmost cities in the Low German dialect area. The city is home to the famous football club Schalke 04, which is named after Gelsenkirchen-Schalke. The club's stadium Veltins-Arena, however, is located in Gelsenkirchen-Erle.

West Germany, officially the Federal Republic of Germany, was a country in Central Europe that existed from 1949 to 1990, a period referred to by historians as the Bonn Republic, an era when the western portion of Germany was part of the Western bloc during the Cold War. It was created during the Allied occupation of Germany in 1949 after World War II, established from eleven states formed in the three Allied zones of occupation held by the United States, the United Kingdom and France. Its capital was the city of Bonn.

A merchant is a person who trades in commodities produced by other people. Historically, a merchant is anyone who is involved in business or trade. Merchants have operated for as long as industry, commerce, and trade have existed. In 16th-century Europe, two different terms for merchants emerged: meerseniers referred to local traders and koopman (Dutch: koopman referred to merchants who operated on a global stage, importing and exporting goods over vast distances and offering added-value services such as credit and finance.

Early life

Kai Twilfer studied economics in Bochum. While a student, he founded a production company for advertising movies. Apart from that, he worked at Westdeutscher Rundfunk in Cologne. In 2002 he founded a wholesale company for regional gift merchandise from the Ruhr region. He is the managing director of the Industriekult-Verlags GmbH.^[1]

Bochum is the sixth largest and one of the southernmost cities in the Low German dialect area. There are nine institutions of higher education in the city, most notably the Ruhr University Bochum, one of the ten largest universities in Germany, and the Bochum University of Applied Sciences.

Career

In February 2013, he published his first book entitled Schantall, tu ma die Omma winken! (Schantall, go ahead and wave at Grandma) through Schwarzkopf & Schwarzkopf, which became a bestseller. In this book, using satire, he describes the experiences of a social worker named Jochen (given name), concerning the fictitious lower-class family “Pröllmann”. His attempts to establish education fail spectacularly. The book was an online book report number one seller during 2013.^[2]

The Schwarzkopf & Schwarzkopf Verlag is a German publishing house founded in 1992 by Oliver Schwarzkopf in Berlin. It includes popular non-fiction and picture books as well as the woman erotic series ANAIS, named after the French writer Anaïs Nin.

A bestseller is, usually, a book that is included on a list of top-selling or frequently-borrowed titles, normally based on publishing industry and book trade figures and library circulation statistics; such lists may be published by newspapers, magazines, or book store chains. The German National Library is the central archival library and national bibliographic centre for the Federal Republic of Germany. Its task is to collect, permanently archive, comprehensively document and record bibliographically all German and German-language publications since 1913, foreign publications about Germany, translations of German works, and the works of German-speaking emigrants published abroad between 1933 and 1945, and to make them available to the public.
