The All India Trinamool Congress is an Indian political party which is predominantly active in West Bengal. The party is led by Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, who has led the state since 2011. Following the 2019 general election, it is currently the fourth-largest party in the Lok Sabha with 22 seats.

He previously served as the Minister of Transport, Irrigation and Water resource in West Bengal. A Legislative Assembly election was held in 2016 for the 294 seats of the Vidhan Sabha in the state of West Bengal in India. The All India Trinamool Congress under Mamata Banerjee won 211 seats, and thus was reelected with an enhanced majority. Like in the 2011 election, the poll was held in six phases, with the first phase divided into two days. The first phase was held in Naxalite-Maoist affected Red corridor areas with two polling dates: 4 April and 11 April. The other phases were held on 17, 21, 25, 30 April and 5 May. The result of the election was declared on 19 May.
Gouri Sankar Dutta was an Indian Politician from the state of West Bengal. He was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He represented the Tehatta assembly constituency as a member of the All India Trinamool Congress. In March 2021, he along with Bachchu Hansda joined Bharatiya Janata Party after being denied ticket for 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. He died of COVID-19 at age 70 on 28 April 2021.

Bengal post-poll violence refers to the violence—including murders, rapes and vandalism—that are reported to have happened in some parts of West Bengal after the announcement of results of the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. In reality it was continuation of the violence which took place across the state during the election.
