Kalabaydh is a town which is part of the Maroodi Jeex region of Somaliland, and sits on the junction of highways connecting Gabiley, Wajaale and Borama. [1]

Demographics

The total population of Kalabaydh is 50,000 and is primarily inhabited by the Jibril Abokor sub divisions of the Sa'ad Musa subclan of the Habar Awal Isaaq. [2]

Marodi Jeh is an administrative region (gobol) in western Somaliland. It is the most populous region of the country. It is bordered by Awdal to the west, Sahil to the north, Togdheer to the east and Ethiopia to the south. Marodi Jeh was created by splitting the previously existing region (gobolka) Woqooyi Galbeed in two, the other part being Sahil. In 2007 the region of Woqooyi Galbeed was renamed to Maroodi Jeex.

The Isaaq is a major Somali clan. It is one of the largest Somali clans in the Horn of Africa, with a large and densely populated traditional territory.

The Dhulbahante is a Somali clan family, part of the Harti clan which itself belongs to the largest Somali clan-family — the Darod. They are the traditional inhabitants of the physiographic Nugaal in its topographic sense, and its pre-independence administrative sense, which included Doollo. The clan's progenitor is buried at Badweyn.

Abdirahman bin Isma'il al-Jabarti, also known as Daarood, Dawud or Da'ud, is the semi-legendary common ancestor of the Somali Darod clan and the Harla people. According to local tradition, Abdirahman descended from Aqil ibn Abi Talib, a member of the Banu Hashim and a cousin of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. This claim of descendance, like similar claims of Arab descent made by other clans and which are typical for Somali clan genealogy, is historically untenable.

The British Military Administration of Somaliland was the control of the regions of British Somaliland and of the former Italian Somaliland by the British from 1941 until 1949. At the end of 1949, it became a United Nations trust territory which would last from 1950 until 1960 whilst under Italian administration.

Baran is a village in the Sool region of Somaliland. It is inbetween Las Anod, the regional capital of Sool, and Kalabaydh. The main road that runs from the regional capital to the southeast is named after it. It is primarily inhabited by the Baharsame subclan of the Dhulbahante. In 1906 Baran was made part of the Darwiish grazing ground. It is located a dozen or so kilometers to the west of Weylahed, the second Darwiish capital in 1901.
