Kali Wallace is an American author of speculative fiction for children and adults.

Early life and education

Wallace was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She received an undergraduate degree in geology at Brown University before attending University of Colorado Boulder where she graduated with a PhD in geophysics. [1]

Career

Wallace has published a number of short stories in publications such as Tor.com, Clarkesworld Magazine and Asimov's Science Fiction . [1] Wallace's short story "The Day They Came" was published in Lightspeed in 2012. The story is notable for having been written in the second person point of view. [2]

Her debut novel Shallow Graves was published in 2016. The young adult novel focused on a teenage girl's attempts to solve her own murder after mysteriously coming back to life. It received critical praise for its suspense and incorporation of mythological elements. [3] [4] The following year, she published The Memory Trees , another young adult fantasy-suspense novel. [5] The book was placed on The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books' Blue Ribbon List. [6] Wallace published the children's fantasy book City of Islands in 2018. [7] [8]

In 2019, Wallace published the science fiction-thriller Salvation Day , her first novel for adults. [9] Salvation Day was followed by the adult science fiction-mystery novel Dead Space in 2021, [10] for which she received a Philip K. Dick Award. [11] The following year, she published the children's fantasy book Hunters of the Lost City , which earned a positive reception from critics. [12] [13]

Shadowshaper is a 2015 American urban fantasy young adult novel written by Daniel Jose Older. It is the first in the Shadowshaper Cypher series. It follows Sierra Santiago, an Afro-Boricua teenager living in Brooklyn. In the book it is revealed that she is the granddaughter of a "shadowshaper", or a person who infuses art with ancestral spirits. As forces of gentrification invade their community and a mysterious being who appropriates their magic begins to hunt the aging shadowshapers, Sierra must learn about her artistic and spiritual heritage to foil the killer. Four sequels have followed: "Ghostgirl in the Corner", "Dead Light March", Shadowhouse Fall and Shadowshaper Legacy.

Fonda Lee is a Canadian-American author of speculative fiction. She is best known for writing The Green Bone Saga, the first of which, Jade City, won the 2018 World Fantasy Award and was named one of the 100 Best Fantasy Books of All Time by Time magazine. The Green Bone Saga was also included on NPR's list, "50 Favorite Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books of the Past Decade".

Cherae Clark, also known under the pen name C. L. Clark, is an American author and editor of speculative fiction, a personal trainer, and an English teacher. She graduated from Indiana University's creative writing MFA and was a 2012 Lambda Literary Fellow. Their debut novel, The Unbroken, first book of the Magic of the Lost trilogy, was published by Orbit Books in 2021 and received critical acclaim, including starred reviews at Publishers Weekly and Library Journal. Her work has appeared in Beneath Ceaseless Skies,FIYAH Literary Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction, Glitter + Ashes: Queer Tales of a World That Wouldn't Die, PodCastle, Tor.com, Uncanny, and The Year's Best African Speculative Fiction (2021).
