Kamal Kamaraju is an Indian actor and screenwriter known for his works in Telugu cinema and theatre. [1]

Early and personal life

Kamaraju was born on 3 September 1981 in Sevagram, Maharashtra in a Telugu family to Jawaharlal Kamaraju and Nirmala Gutta. His father retired as an AGM in Navratna Company NMDC and his mother took voluntary retirement from state organization Markfed. [2] Both hail from Hyderabad where they brought up Kamal and his elder brother, actor Kranthi Kiran.

Kamal was named after his paternal grandmother, Kamala Devi, who hails from Razole in East Godavari district. His maternal grandparents were freedom fighters and were particular that their daughter give birth in renowned Gandhian surroundings.

Kamal studied at Little Flower High School in Hyderabad, where he picked up interest in art, theatre and dance. This later on led to his joining architecture from the JNTU–School of Planning and Architecture (now Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University), Hyderabad where he earned his bachelor's degree in Architecture. On 6 October 2013, Kamal got engaged to Supriya Biswas and the two got married on 13 December 2013. [3]

Career

Kamal started his career as an assistant art director to director Chandra Sekhar Yeleti under the tutelage of renowned art director Ravinder for the film Anukokunda Oka Roju (2005). He got his first opportunity as an actor in Chhatrapati (2005) while working as associate art director for the same film under director S. S. Rajamouli. However, he was most recognised for his role in Sekhar Kammula's Godavari (2006). He then paired up with Kuruvilla to do an independent film called Confessions of a Film Actor (2007) which was one of the first films to be released online as a pay-per-view and became an instant hit overseas.[ citation needed ]

He was later launched as a lead actor by Kammula who produced the well acclaimed Avakai Biryani (2008) directed by Anish Kuruvilla. This led him to doing lead roles in other films like Kalavaramaye Madilo (2009) and Virodhi (2011). He also ventured into Tamil films with Ayiram Vilakku (2010) under the direction of Hosimin where he played a negative role. [4]

Dollar Dreams is a 2000 Indian drama film written, directed and produced by Sekhar Kammula in his directorial debut. Primarily shot in Telugu and English, the film starred Santosh Kumar, Anish Kuruvilla, Ravi Raju, Anil Prashant, Dashveer Singh, Priyanka Veer, and Satya. The film was screened at the 33rd International Film Festival of India. It won the National Film Award for Best First Film of a Director at the 47th National Film Awards.

Vijay C. Kumar is an Indian cinematographer, who works in the Telugu cinema. He won the Nandi Award for Best Cinematographer for the film Godavari (2006). He is the son of cinematographer C. Nageshwara Rao. Vijay Kumar's work is most noted for innovative use of lighting, subject specific visualization, use of natural colors on screen, Tele-focus shots, balancing the depth of focus between the subject and objects and many more techniques. Some of his films in Telugu cinema are Vivaha Bhojanambu, Ammoru, Agraham, Dollar Dreams, Anand and Happy Days.

Avakai Biryani is a 2008 Telugu-language film written and directed by Anish Kuruvilla. Filmed in Telugu, it revolves around Akbar Kalam, a Muslim auto rickshaw-driver and Lakshmi Jandhyala, a traditional Hindu woman with a romantic backdrop. The film stars debutants Kamal Kamaraju and Bindu Madhavi as the lead pair.

The film features five debutante actors, Abijeet, Sudhakar Komakula, Kaushik Darbha, Shagun Kaur, and Zara Shah in lead roles with Shriya Saran, Anjala Zaveri and Amala Akkineni in key supporting roles. This film also features Vijay Deverakonda, Sree Vishnu & Naveen Polisetty. The film is produced by film maker Sekhar Kammula and Chandrasekhar Kammula under Amigos Creations banner. Soundtrack of the film was composed by Mickey J Meyer and the cinematography was handled by Vijay C. Kumar. The film received both mixed to positive reviews from critics and audiences with appreciation for the director's work.

Amigos Creations is an Indian film production company established by Sekhar Kammula in 1999. The company is based in Hyderabad. The first movie that was made under the banner was Dollar Dreams, which won the National Award for the Best Debut Film of a Producer/Director.

<i>Ko Antey Koti</i> 2012 Indian film

Ko Antey Koti is a 2012 released Telugu-language romantic heist thriller film starring Sharwanand, Priya Anand and Sri Hari. It was directed by Anish Kuruvilla and produced by Sharwanand's mother, Myneni Vasundhara Devi, under Sarvaa Arts. The film's title is based on a song from Kshana Kshanam.

Gottimukkala Venkata Rama Raju is an Indian film director and scriptwriter associated with Telugu cinema. He is from the town of Bhimavaram, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh. Ramaraju has undertaken many professions in his life and finally ended up in film industry. His first movie Mallela Theeram Lo Sirimalle Puvvu starring Kranthi, Sri Divya receiving critical acclaim from the directors Sekhar Kammula, V. V. Vinayak and Harish Shankar. His second movie Oka Manasu is a romantic drama starring Niharika Konidela and Naga Shourya which released June 2016. His third movie Priyuraalu is a romantic drama starring Prithvi Medavaram, Mounika Kalapala, Kaushik Reddy and Kamakshi Bhaskarla which released direct-to-streaming on SonyLIV. The film premiered on 17 September 2021 and received mixed reviews from the critics.
