The Kangaroo Island Pioneers Association, is a not for profit history organisation in South Australia.
Established in 1984, [1] the Kangaroo Island Pioneer Association (K.I.P.A.) is committed to determining, preserving and promoting Kangaroo Island’s rich pioneer history. It seeks to honour the presence and achievements of the pioneers in the establishment of the Colony of South Australia.
Membership is open to anyone who is a descendant of pioneers who arrived or settled prior to, or after the establishment of the first settlement on 27 July 1836; soldier settlers and their descendants; and all persons interested in exploring and promoting Kangaroo Island's history. [2]
One of its objectives [3] is to research, interpret and publicise the history behind the Old Mulberry Tree at Reeves Point, the ship "Duke of York" and other early immigrant ships. [4] It also aims to encourage restoration work in the Pioneer Cemetery at Kingscote, Kangaroo Island. It is instrumental in the organisation of the Settlement Day ceremonies at Reeves Point on 27 July each year. [5]
The Kangaroo Island Pioneers Association is registered as a non-profit charitable organisation [6] and is aligned with the History Trust of South Australia. [7]
Projects in the past have included the identification of unmarked graves at Penneshaw Cemetery [8] in November 2014. [9]
The Hon. Vickie Chapman, the Deputy Premier and Attorney General of South Australia, is a patron. She was born on Kangaroo Island and frequently visits her family farm. [10]
Norfolk Island is an external territory of Australia located in the Pacific Ocean between New Zealand and New Caledonia, 1,412 kilometres (877 mi) directly east of Australia's Evans Head and about 900 kilometres (560 mi) from Lord Howe Island. Together with the neighbouring Phillip Island and Nepean Island, the three islands collectively form the Territory of Norfolk Island. At the 2021 census, it had 2,188 inhabitants living on a total area of about 35 km2 (14 sq mi). Its capital is Kingston.

Kanakas were workers from various Pacific Islands employed in British colonies, such as British Columbia (Canada), Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and Queensland (Australia) in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They also worked in California and Chile.
Vickie Ann Chapman is a former Australian politician, representing the South Australian House of Assembly seat of Bragg for the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia between the 2002 election and May 2022. Chapman served as the Deputy Premier of South Australia and Attorney-General between 19 March 2018 and 22 November 2021 in the Marshall government. She was the first woman to hold either post.

Kingscote is a town in the Australian state of South Australia located on Kangaroo Island about 119 kilometres (74 mi) south-west of the state capital of Adelaide. It is South Australia's oldest European settlement and the island's largest town. At the 2016 census, Kingscote had a population of 1,790. It is a well-established tourist centre and the administrative and communications centre. It is home to a colony of the smallest penguins in the world, the little penguin.
Penneshaw is a township in the Australian state of South Australia located on the northeast coast of the Dudley Peninsula on Kangaroo Island about 107 kilometres (66 mi) south of the state capital of Adelaide. It is the island's main ferry port with regular services from Cape Jervis. Penneshaw features a Maritime and Folk Museum, and evening tours to a colony of little penguin, the only species of penguin to breed in Australian waters. At the 2011 census, Penneshaw had a population of 276.
Iain Frederick Evans is a former Australian politician. He was leader of the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia from 2006 to 2007.
Duke of York was a three-masted brig launched in 1817 at Bideford as a Falmouth packet, sailing between Falmouth, Cornwall, and Jamaica. In 1836 she brought settlers to South Australia for the South Australia Company. She was wrecked in 1837.
Leslie Gladys Williams is an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Port Macquarie since 2011 for the Nationals until switching to the Liberal Party in 2020. Williams has been the New South Wales Assistant Minister for Education, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, and Minister for Early Childhood Education from 2 April 2015 until 23 January 2017 when she was replaced in Gladys Berejiklian's cabinet by Sarah Mitchell. From 7 May 2019 until 9 May 2023, she was Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
Kingston Pioneer Cemetery is a heritage-listed cemetery at Bega Road, Kingston, City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1896 to 1941. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 26 May 2000.

In 1836, at least nine ships carried the first European settlers from England to the south coast of Australia for the establishment of the City of Adelaide and the province of South Australia. Although not all of the ships sailed together, they have been referred to as the "First Fleet of South Australia" since all were carrying the first immigrants, including the founding planners and administrators of the new settlement, all of whom were represented at the proclamation of the new province.

The Marshall ministry was the 73rd ministry (cabinet) of the Government of South Australia, led by Steven Marshall of the South Australian Liberal Party. It was formed after the 2018 state election and ended after the 2022 state election. It was preceded by the Weatherill ministry and was succeeded by the Malinauskas ministry.
Old Mulberry Tree at Reeves Point is a tree in the Australian state of South Australia located at Reeves Point in Kingscote on Kangaroo Island. The tree, which was planted as early as 1836, probably by Charles Binden Powell, is associated with the first official European settlement of South Australia and is the oldest surviving fruit tree in the state.
Smith Bay is a bay on the north coast of Kangaroo Island in South Australia. It lies west of Cape D'Estaing and is accessible from land in the locality of Wisanger via the North Coast Road. Smith Creek empties into the western end of the bay. Between 2014 and 2021 it was the site of a proposed port for the export of timber and receipt of passenger and cargo vessels. Yumbah Aquaculture has been commercially producing abalone by drawing water and returning it to the bay since 1995. Smith Bay lies within a Mission Blue Hope Spot that was declared in 2020 and encompasses the north coast of Kangaroo Island.
