Kanoa FC is a professional association football club from the Northern Mariana Islands, currently competing in the Marianas Soccer League 1. The club also fields women and youth sides. [2] [3]
Kanoa FC was founded in 2012. [4] The club's senior men's side has participated in the Marianas Soccer League 1 since the 2013 fall season. [5]
In the 2022 Fall season, the club saw its first top 3 finish in their history and improving from there. They have finished 3rd again in the 2023 Spring season, and finished as runners-up in the following Fall season.
The 2024 Spring season saw the club sweeping the regular season table with no losses and qualifying for the playoffs. The club faced Paire FC in the semi-finals and won 5–0, qualifying for their first Marianas Soccer League final and facing Matansa FC. [6] The final saw a score of 4–2 in favor of Kanoa courtesy of goals from Tyler Omelau and Markus Toves and two own goals from Matansa's backline, sealing Kanoa's first ever Marianas Soccer League 1 title. The club continued with their consistent form as they've managed to place second in the 2024 Fall season table with only two defeats, and qualifying for the playoffs where they faced MP United in the semi-finals and winning 2–3 securing another finals spot and going up against Matansa once again. The club saw two goals from Brian Lubao and Daniell Pablo, although it was not enough. As Matansa would later on win with a scoreline of 3–2 in the finals. [8]
The Northern Mariana Islands national football team represents the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in international men's football. The team is controlled by the governing body for football in the Northern Mariana Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, which is a member of the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) and since December 2020 a full member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The association is not a member of the world governing body FIFA, although it had applied for membership, and so while the national team is eligible to enter AFC and EAFF-run competitions, they are currently ineligible for global competitions such as the FIFA World Cup. As such, they do not have an official FIFA ranking. However, the team have been consistently ranked as one of the worst teams in the world on the Elo ratings and were in fact, in July 2016 rated as the worst men's senior international team in the world in a ratings system that also includes a number of other non-FIFA teams.
The Marianas Soccer League 1 is the men's top level professional football competition of the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association. It is above the Marianas Soccer League 2, but there is no regular promotion/relegation between the two competitions.
The 2012 M*League Division 1 was the sixth season of top-flight football in Northern Marianas Islands. The league was divided into two parts, the Winter League and the Fall League. The Winter League was won by IFC Wild Bills, and the Fall League was won by Tan Holdings FC

Additionally, a referendum involving changes to the constitution was held.
