Madhu Sudan Kanungo was an Indian scientist in the field of gerontology and neuroscience as well as a teacher of molecular biology and biochemistry. He is known for his theories on how gene expression changes with age and the role of this phenomenon in ageing, which is a widely accepted as "Gene expression theory of Aging". In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded India's fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri in 2005. He held the post of BHU Emeritus professor in zoology at the Banaras Hindu University and was also the Chancellor, Nagaland University till his death.

Ratikanta Kanungo is an entrepreneur, builder, educationist, media baron and film producer of Odisha, India. He is also a notorious financial fraudster. Coming from a poor lower-middle-class family, he rose to quick fortunes in real estate business, becoming Managing Director of the Shibani Estates and Promoters Pvt Ltd. He produced a number of Oriya movies and also established a chain of schools and colleges. In May 2013 he drew media attention following the Central Bureau of Investigation exposure of his involvement in the multi-million rupees scam involving fraudulent gold loan availed from Odisha Gramya Bank by mortgaging fake jewellery. He was sentenced to judicial custody.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Binod Kanungo</span> Indian educationalist and author (19112–1990)

Binod Kanungo (1912–1990) was an Odia author, freedom fighter, Gandhian, educator, social reformer and compiler of the Gyana Mandala, which is the greatest encyclopaedia in the Odia language. He also won the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award for his travelogue Runa Parishodha (1983). He was also a veteran freedom fighter and notable educationist. He was awarded with India's fourth highest civilian honour "Padmashree". He died on 22 June 1990.

Dr. V. Mohan is an Indian diabetologist. He is the Chairman and Chief of Diabetology at Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, which is an IDF Centre of Excellence in Diabetes Care. He is also the President and Director of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation in Chennai which is an ICMR Center for Advanced Research on Diabetes.

Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre is a diabetes speciality hospital chain headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was founded in 1991 by V. Mohan along with his wife Rema. Dr. Mohan's Group has 50 centres and more than 4000 staff. Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre is also the collaboration centre for World Health Organization on Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control. In 2017, the centre raised $10.3 million in Series A funding. This is the first round of funding for the centre since its founding in 1991. The money will be allocated to expanding Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialties Centre across India.

Ambrish Mithal is an Indian endocrinologist and the Chairman and Head of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Max Healthcare- Pan-Max, Saket, New Delhi, where he started working in December 2019. He secured the master's degree (DM) from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and subsequently worked at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow and, later, at Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi before joining Medanta the Medicity as Chairman, Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes where he worked from 2009 to 2019. Mithal was honoured by the Government of India in 2015 with Padma Bhushan, the third highest Indian civilian award, for his outstanding contribution to the field of medicine. In September 2020 Dr Mithal became the first Indian to be chosen for the Laureate Award for International Excellence in Endocrinology (2021) by the Endocrine Society (US).
