A Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) is a member of the Parliament of Singapore who is appointed by the president. They are not affiliated to any political party and do not represent any constituency. There are currently nine NMPs in the Parliament.
Traditionally, women in Singapore played a small role in the country's political scene. Since 1984, Singapore has seen an increase in female representation as more women have run for political office. Notable female politicians include the two former ministers: former Acting Minister for Community Development Seet Ai Mee and former Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Lim Hwee Hua; Minister of State Yu-Foo Yee Shoon; and Amy Khor Lean Suan, a district mayor. Several women also became nominated members of parliament, representing a range of societal interests such as women's groups and conservation groups. On 1 October 2015, Grace Fu was appointed the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth.
Eunice Elizabeth Olsen is a Singaporean actress, former Nominated Member of Parliament and the winner of the Miss Universe Singapore 2000 pageant.
Joscelin Yeo Wei Ling is a former Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) from Nov 2006 to Apr 2011 and a former competitive swimmer from Singapore. Yeo won 40 gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games. She also represented Singapore in the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Summer Olympics. Yeo was elected as a Rhodes Scholar but never took up the scholarship. During the 2012 London Olympics, she was a TV analyst for certain Asian markets on ESPN Star Sports.
Thio Li-ann is a Singaporean law professor at the National University of Singapore. She was educated at the University of Oxford, Harvard Law School and the University of Cambridge. In January 2007, she was appointed a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) in Singapore's 11th Parliament.
Nur Amalina binti Che Bakri is a Malaysian physician and social media influencer. Nur Amalina holds the record of most 1As scored in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, scoring 17 1As in 2004. She was raised in Johor Bahru, Malaysia until she moved to the UK to further her studies. Her mother is a school principal and her father is a civil engineer.

She is currently based in Honolulu but is Visiting Professor at the School of Leadership and Organisational Studies at the University of Southern Maine. She is also Adjunct Professor in Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University and University of Hawaii.
Yip Pin Xiu is a Singaporean backstroke swimmer. She is a five-time Paralympic gold medallist and 5 time World Champion, with two world records in the 50 m backstroke S2 and the 100 m backstroke S2. Yip is Singapore's most decorated Paralympian.
Viswaroopan ("Viswa") Sadasivan was a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) in the Parliament of Singapore from 2009 to 2011.
Simon Tay Seong Chee is a Singaporean lawyer and legal academic who served as a Nominated Member of Parliament between 1997 and 2003.
Chia Yong Yong is a Singaporean lawyer, disability advocate and a former Nominated Member of Parliament of Singapore from August 2014 to September 2018.
Janet Yee was a Singaporean woman involved in social work and advocacy of children's rights. She played a leading role in getting the abandoned children their rights as citizens of Singapore. She was one of 11 women inducted to Singapore Women's Hall of Fame in 2015.

Daisy Vaithilingam was a Singaporean social worker. Vaithilingam was involved with setting up foster care and children's programs for the intellectually disabled in Singapore. She was one of the founders of the organization that later became known as MINDS.
Constance Goh MBE (1906–1996) was a Chinese-Singaporean family planning activist. In 1949, she founded the Singapore Family Planning Association, which dramatically reduced the national birth rate.
Ann Elizabeth Wee was a British-born Singaporean academic and social worker, who was called the founding mother of social work in Singapore. She was known for pioneering professional social work in Singapore and as the longest-serving head of the Department of Social Work in the National University of Singapore. She was the inaugural recipient of the lifetime volunteer achievement award of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports in 2009, was honored with the Meritorious Service Medal in 2010 and was inducted into the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame in 2014.
Claire Chiang is a Singaporean entrepreneur, activist and former Nominated Member of Parliament. She is the co-founder of hospitality group Banyan Tree and one of the first two women to be admitted to the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) in 1995. Chiang has advocated for issues on education and gender equality. She was inducted into the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame in 2018.
Anthea Indira Ong Lay Theng is a former Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) for the 13th Parliament of Singapore. Ong is also a full-time entrepreneur and social advocate, and founder of social organisations including Hush TeaBar and A Good Space.
Ang Swee Chai is an orthopedic surgeon and author. She is a co-founder of the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians.
