The 2022 Asian Games, officially the 19th Asian Games and also known as Hangzhou 2022, was a continental multi-sport event which was held from 23 September to 8 October 2023 in Hangzhou, China. The games marked the 110th anniversary since the creation of the first continental event, starting with the 1913 Far Eastern Championship Games.
Karate was first included in the Summer Olympic Games at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, Japan. After it was announced to not be included in 2024, in August 2022 it was announced that karate had made the shortlist for inclusion in the 2028 Games.
Gu Shiau-shuang is a Taiwanese karateka. She is a two-time gold medalist in the women's 50 kg kumite event at the Asian Games.
Tareg Ali Hamedi is a Saudi Arabian karateka. He represented Saudi Arabia at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He won the silver medal in the men's +75 kg event after being disqualified for knocking out his opponent with an illegal kick. He is an eight-time medalist, including four gold medals, at the Asian Karate Championships. He is also a gold medalist at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games and a bronze medalist at the 2018 Asian Games.
Abdelrahman Al-Masatfa is a Jordanian karateka. He won one of the bronze medals in the men's 67 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. He is also a two-time medalist at the Asian Games and an eight-time medalist, including three gold medals, at the Asian Karate Championships.

Anđelo Kvesić is a Croatian karateka. He won the gold medal in the men's kumite +84 kg event at the 2022 European Karate Championships held in Gaziantep, Turkey. He is a two-time medalist, including gold, in his event at the European Games.
Iran competed in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China from 23 September to 8 October 2023. Earlier the event was scheduled to held in September 2022 but due to COVID-19 pandemic cases rising in China the event was postponed and rescheduled to September–October 2023.
