Asian Games appearances (overview)

Indonesia competed at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. Originally scheduled to take place in 2022, the Games were postponed and rescheduled to 2023, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Indonesia competed with 413 athletes. [1] [2]

Background

Administration

National Olympic Committee of Indonesia assigned the minister of public works and public housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, as chef de mission for the Indonesian contingent. [3]

Flag bearers

Hernanda Zulfi (Volleyball) and Nandhira Mauriskha (Wushu) were the Indonesian flag bearers at 2022 Asian Games opening ceremony. [4] Zulfi wore complete traditional clothing from Rote Island, an island at the southernmost tip of Indonesia which is part of the East Nusa Tenggara region. Meanwhile, Mauriskha wore traditional Betawi kebaya. [5] [6]

He won the men's doubles silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games, the bronze medals at the 2017 SEA Games, and at the 2019 and 2022 World Championships. Ardianto was part of Indonesia winning team at the 2020 Thomas Cup. He reached a career high of world number 1 in the men's doubles with Fajar Alfian on 27 December 2022.

    Fajar Alfian is an Indonesian badminton player affiliated with the SGS PLN Bandung. He won the men's doubles silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games, the bronze medals at the 2017 SEA Games, 2019 and 2022 World Championships. He was part of the Indonesia winning team at the 2020 Thomas Cup. He reached a career high of world number 1 in the men's doubles with Muhammad Rian Ardianto on 27 December 2022.

    Apriyani Rahayu is an Indonesian badminton player specializing in doubles. She and Greysia Polii won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics champions in the women's doubles. She won gold at the 2019 SEA Games, and two bronze medals at the World Championships in 2018 and 2019. Rahayu also won bronze medals at the 2018 Asian Games in the women's team and doubles with her former partner Polii.

    Yeremia Erich Yotje Yacob Rambitan is an Indonesian badminton player, who also plays for Exist Jakarta in the national event. In his young age, Rambitan won the mixed doubles Junior National Championships title in 2016, and the boys' doubles bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in 2017.
