The chess event at the 2022 Asian Games was held in Hangzhou Chess Academy (Hangzhou Qiyuan Chess Hall), Hangzhou, China, from 24 September to 7 October 2023.

Contents

China won gold medals in three of the four events (men's individual rapid, women's individual rapid and women's team), while Iran won gold in the men's team event. India won silver in both team events while competitors from Uzbekistan won silver in both rapid events.

Harika Dronavalli is an Indian chess player who holds the FIDE title of Grandmaster (GM). She was part of the gold winning women's team at the 45th Chess Olympiad in 2024. She has won three bronze medals in the Women's World Chess Championship, in 2012, 2015 and 2017. Harika was honored with the Arjuna Award for the year 2007–08 by the government of India. In 2016, she won the FIDE Women's Grand Prix event at Chengdu, China and rose up from world no. 11 to world no. 5 in FIDE women's ranking. In 2019, she was awarded the Padma Shri for her contributions towards the field of sports.

Surya Shekhar Ganguly is an Indian chess grandmaster. His peak ELO rating was 2676. Ganguly became an International Master at the age of 16 and a grandmaster at the age of 19.

Archery was contested from October 6 to October 10 at the 2002 Asian Games at the Gangseo Archery Field, in Busan, South Korea.

The 2014 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships was the sixth edition of the international indoor athletics event between Asian nations. It took place at the Vocational and Technical College Athletics Hall in Hangzhou, China, between 15 and 16 February. The city was confirmed as the host in September 2013 at the 77th Council Meeting of the Asian Athletics Association. This was the second time the city held the event, successively following on from the 2012 Championships. Zhang Yufei is a Chinese competitive swimmer who specializes in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. She currently holds the record for most Olympic medals for a Chinese athlete. In 2023, she was named as the most valuable player in the women's division, in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Keunimjaeva represented Uzbekistan at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

Taekwondo made its debut as an Asian Para Games sport during the 2022 version of the games, held in Hangzhou, China. 77 fighters from 17 nations took part in the competition, fighting in ten weight categories. Competitors qualified under the K44 designation, which includes athletes with unilateral arm amputation or similar imparemnet, or loss of toes affecting the ability to lift the heel.

Dhiraj Bommadevara is an Indian recurve archer. He finished fourth in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Bommadevara is a gold, silver, and multiple bronze medalist at the World Cup. He also won a silver medal at the Asian Games and a gold medal at the World Youth Championships.

The 2022 Asian Para Games, also known as the 4th Asian Para Games and commonly known as the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, was a multi-sport event that paralleled the 2022 Asian Games which was held for Asian athletes with disabilities in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China from 22 to 28 October 2023.

Soundarya Kumar Pradhan is an Indian para chess player from Odisha. The visually challenged chess player was selected for the Indian team that took part in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games. He won the Men's Team Rapid VI-B1 gold medal on 28 October 2023 along with Darpan Inani and Ashwin Makwana. He also won a silver medal in the individual event.
