Karen Devine

Karen Dragon Devine is an American computer scientist specializing in high-performance technical computing. She is a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff in the Center for Computing Research at Sandia National Laboratories. At Sandia, she is part of the development team for the Zoltan and Trilinos scientific computing packages. [1]

Education

Devine is a 1987 graduate of Wilkes College. [1] [2] She earned her Ph.D. in 1994 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with Joseph E. Flaherty as her doctoral advisor. Her dissertation was An Adaptive HP-Finite Element Method with Dynamic Load Balancing for the Solution of Hyperbolic Conservation Laws on Massively Parallel Computers. [1] [3]

Recognition

In 1999, Wilkes University gave Devine their Distinguished Young Alumni Award. [2] In 2018 she was elected chair of the Activity Group on Computational Science and Engineering (SIAG/CSE) of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. [4]

He served as a faculty fellow at Texas A&M University's institute for advanced study. Dongarra is the founding director of Innovative Computing Laboratory.

Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) is an academic association dedicated to the use of mathematics in industry. SIAM is the world's largest professional association devoted to applied mathematics, and roughly two-thirds of its membership resides within the United States. Founded in 1951, the organization began holding annual national meetings in 1954, and now hosts conferences, publishes books and scholarly journals, and engages in lobbying in issues of interest to its membership. Jeffrey C. Trinkle is Professor and former Chair of Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He is known for his work in robotic manipulation, multibody dynamics, and automated manufacturing. He has bachelor's degrees in physics (1979) and engineering (1979) from Ursinus College and Georgia Institute of Technology, respectively, and a PhD (1987) from the University of Pennsylvania. He has taught at the University of Arizona and Texas A&M University. From 1998 to 2003 he was a research scientist at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jennifer Tour Chayes American computer scientist and mathematician

Jennifer Tour Chayes is the University of California, Berkeley Associate Provost for the Division of Data Science and Information and Dean of the School of Information. She was formerly a Technical Fellow and Managing Director of Microsoft Research New England in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which she founded in 2008, and Microsoft Research New York City, which she founded in 2012. Chayes is best known for her work on phase transitions in discrete mathematics and computer science, structural and dynamical properties of self-engineered networks, and algorithmic game theory. She is considered one of the world's experts in the modeling and analysis of dynamically growing graphs. Chayes has been with Microsoft Research since 1997, when she co-founded the Theory Group. She received her Ph.D. in mathematical physics at Princeton University in 1983. She is Affiliate Professor of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Washington, and was for many years Professor of Mathematics at UCLA. She is an author on almost 120 scientific papers and the inventor on more than 25 patents.

Edith Hirsch Luchins was a Polish-American mathematician. Her work focused on applying mathematical principles to problems in the philosophy of science and psychology, most notably in the field of Gestalt psychology. The Luchins and Luchins' Water Jar Experiment is named after her and psychologist Abraham S. Luchins.

Francine Berman American computer scientist

Francine Berman is an American computer scientist, and a leader in digital data preservation and cyber-infrastructure. In 2009, she was the inaugural recipient of the IEEE/ACM-CS Ken Kennedy Award "for her influential leadership in the design, development and deployment of national-scale cyberinfrastructure, her inspiring work as a teacher and mentor, and her exemplary service to the high performance community". In 2004, Business Week called her the "reigning teraflop queen".

Joyce Rogers McLaughlin was an American mathematician, the Ford Foundation Professor of Mathematics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Her research interests were primarily in applied mathematics, and in particular in inverse problems.

Dianne Prost O'Leary is an American mathematician and computer scientist whose research concerns scientific computing, computational linear algebra, and the history of scientific computing. Brandeis Marshall American data scientist

Brandeis Marshall is an American data scientist and Full Professor of Computer Science at Spelman College, where she is the former Chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences. Starting in September 2019, Marshall is a faculty associate at Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. She has also worked to broaden participation in the field of data science to increase representation of underrepresented minorities.

Sibel Adalı is a Turkish-American computer scientist who studies trust in social networks and uncertainty in decision-making. She is a professor of computer science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and associate dean for research at Rensselaer.

Mark H. Holmes is an American applied mathematician and Professor of Mathematics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he served as Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, and was the founding Director of the Center for Modeling, Optimization and Computational Analysis (MOCA).

Ewa Deelman is a Research Professor of computer science at the University of Southern California, Information Sciences Institute. She is a principal investigator (PI) of the Pegasus Software Project, which designs and implements workflow mapping techniques for large-scale applications running in distributed environments. Deelman is a Research Director of Science Automation Technologies and a Principal Scientist at the University of Southern California, Information Sciences Institute. She is an AAAS Fellow and IEEE Fellow.
