Karl Gauti Hjaltason is an Icelandic politician who was a member of Althing from 2017 to 2021. [1] Formerly, he was a part of People's Party of Iceland. [2]

Life and career

Hjaltason was born in 1959 in Reykjavík, Iceland. [1] He earned a degree in management from Endurmenntun Háskóla Íslands. [1]

Between 1985 and 1998, Hjaltason was the chairman of the Icelandic Karate Association. [1]

In 2012, he founded Vestmannaeyjar Astronomical Society where he served as a chairman until 2014. [1]

South is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established as Southern in 1959 following the nationwide extension of proportional representation for elections to the Althing. It was renamed South in 2003 when parts of Eastern and Reykjanes constituencies were merged into the Southern constituency following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. South consists of the Southern and Southern Peninsula regions. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 38,424 registered electors.

Contributing artist vocalists include Opee, Valdimar Guðmundsson (of Valdimar, Unnstein Manuel Stefánsson, Emmsjé Gauti, Björn Jörundur and Krummi. He has released debut album Gimsteinar resulting in 4 charting singles in Tónlist, the official Icelandic Chart. He insists on not revealing his real name to the media.

Gauti Þeyr Másson, better known as Emmsjé Gauti, is an Icelandic rapper and hip hop artist with R&B and pop influences. He started his rapping career in 2002 and was member of Icelandic rap groups 32c and Skábræður before going solo starting 2010 and releasing two albums Bara ég in 2011 and Þeyr in 2013 with "Kinky" as the first single from Þeyr. The Klaustur Affair, also known in Iceland as Klaustur Recordings(Klaustursupptökurnar) or Klausturgate was a political affair in Iceland that sparked public debate and protests in Iceland since late November 2018. It was triggered by audio recordings of conversations between Althing Icelandic parliamentarians, which were secretly recorded on 20 November 2018 in Bar Klaustur in Reykjavík and subsequently leaked to the media. The records contain offensive and sexist statements about female members of parliament and revealing the appointment of an ambassador as a political favour.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">1955 Nobel Prize in Literature</span> Award

The 1955 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to the Icelandic writer Halldór Kiljan Laxness (1902–1998) "for his vivid epic power which has renewed the great narrative art of Iceland." He is the first and only Icelandic recipient of the Nobel prize in all categories. The literary critic Sveinn Hoskuldsson described him, saying:

"His chief literary works belong to the genre... [of] narrative prose fiction. In the history of our literature Laxness is mentioned beside Snorri Sturluson, the author of "Njals saga", and his place in world literature is among writers such as Cervantes, Zola, Tolstoy, and Hamsun... He is the most prolific and skillful essayist in Icelandic literature both old and new..."

Þorsteinn Gauti Hjálmarsson is an Icelandic-Finnish handball player who currently plays for Fram of the Icelandic top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla. In December 2022, he was called into the Finnish national handball team training group.
