Karma Loday Bhutia is an Indian politician from Sikkim. He was elected to the Sikkim Legislative Assembly in 2019.
In 2019 Bhutia stood for election on a Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) ticket from the Kabi Lungchok seat in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly. He won against the Sikkim Democratic Front candidate,Ugen Nedup Bhutia by a margin of over 1437 votes in the 2019 Sikkim Legislative Assembly election. Following his victory,Bhutia was inducted in the P. S. Golay's Cabinet with the following portfolios:forest and environment;mines and geology;and science and technology. [1] [2] [3] [4]
For the 2024 Sikkim Legislative Assembly election,Bhutia was denied SKM party ticket to represent the same constituency. [5] SKM instead chose Thenlay Tshering Bhutia to represent the party in the assembly seat,who eventually won the election. [6] Few days after the results were declared,SKM expelled Karma Bhutia from the party for engaging it anti-party activities after being denied the ticket to represent the seat. [5]
On 5th November 2023,at the annual convention of the Sikkim Bhutia Lepcha Apex Committee,Bhutia called for a proportionate increase of Bhutia Lepcha seats in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly. Then,the community held 13 seats,including the Sangha seat. [7]

Kabi Lungchok is a historic site of significance,which is located 17 kilometres (11 mi) north of Gangtok on the Northern Highway in northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. The historicity of the site is attributed to the fact that the Lepchas,the ethnic tribals of Sikkim and Bhutias,the immigrants from southern Bhot who settled down in Sikkim from the 14th century onwards,ceremonially signed a "Treaty of Blood Brotherhood" with religious fervour. Stone pillars mark the location where the treaty was signed. The Treaty was signed at Kabi Lungchok by the Bhot King,Khye Bumsa representing the Bhutias and the Lepcha Chief Thekong Tek. The literal meaning of 'Kabi Lungchok',pronounced ‘Kayu sha bhi Lungchok’,is "stone erected by our blood." Life-size statues of the Lepcha and Bhutia 'blood-brothers' who signed the treaty has been erected here.
