Kaspar Munk (born 23 June 1971) is a Danish film director, writer and producer, best known as the director of HBO series Kamikaze and Danish Netflix series The Rain . [1] [2] Munk is the recipient of five Robert Awards, which is the Danish equivalent of the Academy Awards. [3] [4]

Career

Munk made his debut in 1996 with the short film Let's Be Friends. In 2007 he was nominated for the Robert Awards for the short film Forsvunden, which went on to win the Award for Best Children's and Youth Film at Odense International Film Festival. [5] [6]

His first feature film was Hold Me Tight in 2010, for which he received several Danish and international awards, including the Marc'Aurelio Award in Rome, Italy, Best Feature Film Award in Tallinn, Estonia, and two awards at the festival in Mannheim-Heidelberg, Germany. [7]

In 2012, Munk directed and co-financed You & Me Forever , which won the Danish film prize Robert Awards for Best Children's and Youth Film, as well as a nomination at the Bodil Awards. The film received the Nordic Film Prize  [ da ] In 2013. [8] [9]

In 2015, Munk moved away from youth and children movies and started directing TV series, including the DR series Ride Upon The Storm, as well as two episodes of the Netflix series The Rain .

In 2021, Munk directed the first season of the first ever Danish-produced HBO series, Kamikaze. [10] [11]

Pain of Love is a 1992 Danish dramatic tragedy written and directed by Nils Malmros. It stars Anne Louise Hassing and Søren Østergaard in a beautiful but bitter story about a young college student whose small setbacks in school and relationships lead her toward an inexorable descent into suicidal depression.

Henning Carlsen was a Danish film director, screenwriter, and producer most noted for his documentaries and his contributions to the style of cinéma vérité. Carlsen's 1966 social-realistic drama Hunger (Sult) was nominated for the Palme d'Or and won the Bodil Award for Best Danish Film. Carlsen also won the Bodil Award the following year for the comedy People Meet and Sweet Music Fills the Heart. Acting as his own producer since 1960, Carlsen has directed more than 25 films, 19 for which he wrote the screenplay. In 2006, he received the Golden Swan Lifetime Achievement Award at the Copenhagen International Film Festival.

Created in 1948, it is one of the oldest film awards in Europe, and it honours the best performance by an actor in a leading role in a Danish produced film. The jury can decide not to hand out the award. This has happened five times, in 1952, 1970, 1976, 1985, and in 1986.

Fenar Ahmad is a Danish filmmaker of Iraqi origin. He was born in 1981 in Czechoslovakia to immigrant Iraqi parents. In 1986 the family emigrated to Denmark. There he studied film in the alternative film school Super16.

Elias Græsbøll Munk-Petersen is a Danish actor. He is also a writer, who wrote his first novel The Stupidity of Youth at the age of 17 and a lot of short-stories. Elias was selected as Northern Light Talent at the Berlinale Filmfestival 2015. His career in Denmark kicked off with a lead role in the feature film For My Brother by Brian Bang. This led to a lead role in the short fiction story Exit Neverland by Chadi Abdul-Karim. That story was nominated for a Robert Award and won the European Independent Filmfestival for best short story. In 2014 Elias played lead in the short story When the Sun Shines that won Guldægget Award for best short story and Elias won the Guldægget Award for best actor. The success of the short movie led to the making of the feature film that premiered in Denmark at the CPH PIX filmfestival October 2016. Same year, at the Subtitle Film Festival, Elias won a shared award for Outstanding Performance with Laura Kjær for their roles in When The Sun Shines.

Tidsrejsen is a Danish television series in the form of a Nordic Christmas calendar that was shown over the Christmas period by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in 2014. As per tradition for Nordic Christmas calendars, the series premiered on 1 December 2014 and ran for 24 episodes. It was written by Poul Berg and directed by Kaspar Munk. Tidsrejsen was filmed mostly in the town of Dragør on Amager, south of Copenhagen. The series has science fiction elements, such as a time machine, and has themes of young love and general love, as well as family, the idea that actions have consequences and the idea that people decide their own fate in life.

Louise Vesth is a Danish film producer. Her short film Om natten was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Short Film in 2008.
