Kat Elizabeth Burns is a Canadian musician known as KASHKA [2] who was the lead songwriter and vocalist of Forest City Lovers. [3] She is also a visual artist [4] [5] and voice over actor. [6]

Contents

Career

Burns led folk-pop band Forest City Lovers from 2006 to 2012, releasing three full-length albums and one vinyl single [7] with the band before their indefinite hiatus. [8] In 2010, she started KASHKA as a side project and has since taken it on full-time. [9] She has released two full-length albums and a number of singles under the "KASHKA" moniker. [10] Burns is also involved in community organisations Girls Rock Camp Toronto and SKETCH. [11]

Friends in Bellwoods is a compilation album, released in 2007. It was the first release on Out of This Spark, through a distribution deal with Sonic Unyon Records. The album is named for a house on Bellwoods Avenue in Toronto, shared by two members of the band Ohbijou, which NOW has written "might just be the new epicentre of T.O.'s indie rock community". All of the featured artists are members or friends and collaborators of Ohbijou, and many of the tracks on the album were recorded in the house itself.
