Charles Butt Stanton was a British politician,who served as an Member of Parliament (MP) from 1915 to 1922. After the two-member Merthyr Tydfil seat was divided into two single member seats,Stanton focused on the Aberdare division,which he won at the 1918 general election,but lost at the 1922 general election.

Dawn Alison Louise Bowden is a British Labour Party politician and trade unionist serving as Chief Whip of the Welsh Government and Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport since 2021. Bowden has been the Member of the Senedd (MS) for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney since 2016.
The 2021 Senedd election took place on Thursday 6 May 2021 to elect 60 members to the Senedd. It was the sixth devolved general election since the Senedd was established in 1999. The election was held alongside the Scottish Parliament election,English local elections,London Assembly and mayoral election and the Hartlepool by-election.
The 2017 Welsh local elections were held on 4 May 2017 to elect members of all 22 local authorities in Wales. This included the Isle of Anglesey,which was previously up for election in 2013 due to having its elections delayed for a year. Community council elections also took place on the same day. These local elections were held as part of the 2017 local elections in the United Kingdom. Apart from Anglesey,the last elections were held in 2012. Normally these elections take place every four years,but the 2017 elections were postponed for a year in order to avoid clashing with the 2016 Welsh Assembly election,which itself had been postponed by a year to avoid clashing with the 2015 general election.
Reform UK is a right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom. It was founded with support from Nigel Farage in November 2018 as the Brexit Party,advocating hard Euroscepticism and a no-deal Brexit and was a significant political force in 2019. After Brexit,it was renamed to Reform UK in January 2021,and became primarily an anti-lockdown party during the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently,in December 2022,it began campaigning on broader right-wing populist themes during the British cost-of-living crisis. As the Brexit Party,it gained 29 seats and the largest share of the national vote in the 2019 European Parliament election.
Alexandra Lesley Phillips is a British journalist and former politician. She served as a Brexit Party member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the South East England constituency from 2019 to 2020. She was the second candidate on the party's list for the constituency after party leader Nigel Farage. Phillips was previously head of media at the UK Independence Party (UKIP),which she left in September 2016. She was a GB News presenter between June 2021 and September 2022. In February 2023,Phillips joined Reform UK.
The 2017 Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council election took place on Thursday 4 May 2017 to elect the 33 members of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council in Wales. This was on the same day as other 2017 United Kingdom local elections. The Council shifted back from Labour to Independent control.
The 2022 Carmarthenshire County Council election took place on Thursday 5 May 2022 to elect 75 members to Carmarthenshire Council. On the same day,elections were held to the other 21 local authorities and to community councils in Wales as part of the 2022 Welsh local elections.
