Kate Elisabeth Augestad (born 1956) is a Norwegian vocalist known from bands like Johnny Banan Band and Program 81/82, and the mother of mezzo-soprano, vocalist, actress and conductor Tora Augestad (b. 1979).

Augestad was born in Bergen. After her singing career, she became Assistant Professor at University of Bergen, Department of Information Science and Media Studies, and "Handelshøyskolen BI" in Bergen. [1] She has also appeared as an actor at Den Nationale Scene in Bergen. [2]

Musical career

Augestad and Lasse Myrvold (1953–2006) were lead vocalists in the band "Johnny Banan Band", which later became The Aller Værste!. They were among the driving forces in the so-called Bergen Wave. On the "Program 82" album Pictures (1982) the sound was synth-based in the direction of post punk à la Japan. [2] [3]

Augestad was also part of the band "Poplins", with Arne Moe Vindedal, Frank Hovland and Lasse Myrvold from "TAV!". Together with Lars Ove Toft, Kåre Thomsen, Hovland and Arne Moe Vindedal, she formed the band "One Step Limbo" (1990). [2]

Tora Karen Elisabeth Augestad is a Norwegian mezzosoprano, musical conductor and actor. One of Norway's most established classical singers, she focuses on jazz, musical theater, contemporary music, and cabaret. Her stage debut was the lead role in "Annie" in 1994, and won the Norwegian talent competition in 1993 at TV 2. Augestad has received Spellemannprisen and other awards for her albums. She is a frequent collaborator of Norwegian composer Marcus Paus.

Program 81, later Program 82 was a new wave band from Bergen, Norway. After a self-titled mini LP and the LP Try to reach ... both of which came in 1981, the singer «Pjusken» replaced by Kate Augestad. At the end they changed their name to Program 82. At the same time they started to perform their music with English lyrics and released the album Pictures. At the next turn of the year, however, they chose to keep the name, and they returned to sing Norwegian texts. Slippe fri (1983) was the last album by Program 82.

Lasse Mustafa Myrvold was a Norwegian musician and composer. He was raised in Stavanger, but is first and foremost known as a part of the Bergen Wave, with the pioneering Norwegian band The Aller Værste! and their Spellemannprisen winning album Materialtretthet (1980).

Frank Hovland is a Norwegian luthier, rock musician and music producer from Bergen, known for his work with the band Program 81/82 along with his partner Kate Augestad, and collaborations with Ronni Le Tekrø, Terje Rypdal, Chris Thompson and Mads Eriksen.

Kåre Thomsen is a Norwegian Jazz musician (guitar) and graphic designer, known for a number of releases and is active on the Bergen jazz scene performing with musicians like Karl Seglem, Vigleik Storaas and Terje Isungset. He is the younger brother of the acclaimed Bergen guitarist Ole Thomsen.
