Kate MacGregor

Kate MacGregor (born 12 January 1991) is an English sailor. She was born in Poole, Dorset. [1]

As of 2012, MacGregor is 1.58 metres (5 ft 2 in) tall and weighs 60 kilograms (130 lb). [1] She is a member of Poole Yacht Club and is coached by Maurice Paardenkooper. [1] She studied for a Business degree at Southampton Solent University but put her studies on hold to focus on her sailing career. [1] [2] She won a gold medal at the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival held in Sydney, Australia. [3]

In 2010, MacGregor teamed up with her older sister Lucy MacGregor, Annie Lush and Mary Rook to win gold at the ISAF women's match racing World Championship in Newport, Rhode Island, United States. The British crew won the final 32 over an American team helmed by two-time world title-winner Sally Barkow. [4] At the 2011 Sailing World Championships in Perth, Australia, MacGregor reached the final of the match-racing event, as part of a crew with Lush and Lucy MacGregor, where they were beaten 40 by the United States boat skippered by Anna Tunnicliffe. [5]

The three won a gold medal at the 2011 World Cup event in Hyères, France by beating Barkow's crew 30 in the final. [6] [7]

MacGregor was selected to compete for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the newly created Elliott 6 metres match-racing event. She will compete alongside her sister Lucy MacGregor and Annie Lush. [8] Together the three are nicknamed the "Match Race Girls". [9] [10] The event took place at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy with the round robin group stage being held from 29 July to 4 August 2012. [11] They were defeated in the quarter finals of the Sailing at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Elliott 6m by the Russian team. [12]

During the 2012 Olympics the team with helmsman Renee Groeneveld and crewmembers Bes and Marcelien Bos-de Koning took 8th place in Weymouth.

Marcelien Bos-de Koning is a Dutch three-time world champion and Olympic silver medalist sports sailor. She represented her country at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Qingdao. With crew member Lobke Berkhout Bos-de Koning took the silver medal as helmsman in the Women's 470. Bos-de Koning returned as crew member to the 2012 Olympic match regatta's in Weymouth in the Elliott 6m. With helmsman Renee Groeneveld and fellow crew member Annemieke Bes Bos-de Koning took 8th place.

Andrew James "Bart" Simpson, was an English sailor who won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, as crew for skipper Iain Percy in the Star class representing Great Britain. Simpson died in the capsize of the catamaran he was crewing on 9 May 2013, while training for the America's Cup in San Francisco Bay.

Chris Draper is a British sailor who has won multiple World and European championships and a bronze medal at the Sailing at the 2004 Olympic competing in the mixed 49er. He has been a winner of the Extreme Sailing Series and was helmsman for Luna Rossa, Italy's America's cup challenger 2011 to 2015. In the 34th Americas cup he became the first Britain to helm in the Louis Vuitton cup final. For the ACWS & 35th America's Cup between 2015 and the Cup event in Bermuda in June 2017 he held the position of Sailing Team Manager / Tactician and Wing trimmer for Softbank Team Japan. In 2019 he became CEO and Wing trimmer for the Great Britain team racing in the newly formed SailGP, racing the F50 hydro foiling catamarans in a global racing circuit. In 2021 he joined the Japanese SailGP team as a Wing Trimmer. winning multiple events during the 2021/2022 SailGP season and finishing runners up overall.

The Women's Match Racing World Championship is arranged by the International Sailing Federation. With female match racing included in the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition for the first time this section of the sport is growing in popularity.

Eilidh Jane McIntyre is a British former sailor, who won the gold medal alongside Hannah Mills in the 470 event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She won the 2019 470 World Championships, and came second at the 2017 470 World Championships. She finished third at the 2015 470 European Championships, and second at the 2019 and 2021 events, as well as having won multiple Sailing World Cup medals. In 2022, McIntyre was awarded an MBE for services to yachting.
