Jalalabad City in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan

Jalalabad is the fifth-largest city of Afghanistan. It has a population of about 356,274, and serves as the capital of Nangarhar Province in the eastern part of the country, about 80 miles (130 km) from the capital Kabul. Jalalabad is located at the junction of the Kabul River and the Kunar River in a plateau to the south of the Hindu Kush mountains. It is linked by highways with Kabul to the west and the Pakistani city of Peshawar to the east including through the Khyber Pass.

Faiz Mohammad Katib Hazara Historian and writer

Faiz Mohammad Kātib Hazāra most known as Kātib was son of Saeed Mohammad was born in 1860, in Zard Sang village of Nawur District of Ghazni Province of Afghanistan, he spent a part of his life in Nawur District another district of Ghazni, and died in Kabul on March 3, 1931. He was an ethnic Hazara and was of Muhammad Khwaja Hazara clan. He was Afghan court chronicler, a skilled calligrapher and secretary to Emir Habib Ullah Khan from 1901 to 1919. He was a well known historian, writer and intellectual, among the renowned group of Afghans seeking social and political changes in the country at the beginning of the 20th century, which shaped early regional politics from Afghanistan to Morocco therefore many of the Afghan people say the government should have named him as the Father of Afghanistan History. He was a member of what became known as Junbish-i Mashrutyat or The Constitutionalist Movement.

The American University of Afghanistan is Afghanistan's first private, not-for-profit institution of higher education. The university is located in Kabul, near the Darul Aman Palace and the Afghan Parliament.

Kabul Polytechnic University

Kabul Polytechnic University is the main center of educating engineers in Kabul, Afghanistan. It was founded on 13 October 1963 as Kabul Polytechnic Institute and is located in 72 hectares of land in Karte Mamourin, north-western Kabul. In the opening ceremony government officials from both Afghanistan other countries were present. Since its establishment it has been considered one of the important entities in providing education and training.

Kabul Medical University

Kabul Medical University formerly known as Kabul Medical Institute) is located in Kabul, Afghanistan on the campus of Kabul University. The medical institution was initially maintained by collaboration with the Turkish and French sponsors. KMF developed into a single autonomous University in 2005. KMU is a coeducational center with below 1000 enrolment. It currently graduates professionals in fields of Curative Medicine, Pediatric, Stomatology, Dental and Nursing. In 2012 two new departments of Medical Technology and Anesthesia were also added. All subjects are taught in Dari and Pashto but most medical terms are in English.

Dawat University is a private university registered with the government of Afghanistan. Established in 2009, Dawat University is a non-profit private higher-education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of Kabul.

Al-Beroni University University in Afghanistan

Al-Beroni University is located in the small town of Kohistan, Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, about 64 km north of the capital Kabul. Alberoni University is a public institute of higher education, and was inaugurated in 1998 by the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education, Al Beroni University (AU) is a very small coeducational Afghan higher education institution. The university is named after Abu Rayhan al-Biruni, a renowned polymath scholar who lived in the 11th century. Al Beroni University (AU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. The AU beginning with a faculty of Medical and Engineering. It is the fifth largest university in Afghanistan after Kabul University, Nangarhar University, Balkh University and Herat University. The university has 9 faculties and 32 departments. The most popular fields of study is law, medicine and engineering.

Abdul Wahid Nazari is an Afghan film writer, director and producer. He is the director of Radio Television Afghanistan.

Spinghar Higher Education Institute, was registered as a private higher education institute on May 20, 2009, in the city of Jalalabad, Nangarhar province, Afghanistan with ministry of higher education of Afghanistan. It has classes up to fifth year and also graduate the third bach and now they are in house job. All classes and house job doctors have been allowed to do their practical classes in Spinghar University teaching hospital and spinghar mom and hospital in jalal abad.

Prof. Hamida Barmaki was a renowned Afghan law professor and human rights activist. She was killed together with her family in a suicide attack.

Kabul Education University پوهنتون تعلیم و تربیه is a public university in Kabul, Afghanistan. It originally served as the Teachers Training Centre in the 1990s, awarding bachelor's degrees to its students in fellowship with UNESCO. During the presidency of Burhanuddin Rabbani, it developed into the Institute of Pedagogy and was given the status of higher education institute and transferred to the Ministry of Higher Education. It was given an official charter as a university in 2003. Kabul Education University of Rabbani is among the best educational institutions in Afghanistan, that is among the top 5 universities according to the national rankings. Kabul Education University of Rabbani ranks in the national rating of Afghanistan, this impressive result was achieved in less than 20 years.

Ahmad Javeed Ahwar

Ahmad Javeed Ahwar or جاوید احور is a lawyer, writer and a human rights activist born on May 29, 1987, in Afghanistan. He speaks several languages; Dari his native, English, Pashtu, Dutch and Arabic. In late 2011 he published his first book by the help of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in Afghanistan under the title of Path Dependency and the International Conferences on Afghanistan: From Bonn 2001 to Bonn 2011".

American University of Afghanistan attack 2016 terrorist attack

On 24 August 2016, attackers who are suspected members of the Taliban stormed the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul, Afghanistan, using a car bomb and automatic weapons. Thirteen people were killed, including seven university students, one policeman, three security guards at the university, and a university professor. Fifty to at least 53 people were injured, some critically. Three of the attackers were killed by Afghan Special Forces. This was the first direct attack on the university, although two professors were kidnapped just outside the university a few weeks prior.

Dunya University of Afghanistan is a private university established in 2009 in Kabul, Afghanistan in partnership with the Swiss UMEF University. UMEF is not accredited by the Swiss higher education authorities.
