Katya Ida Coelho (born 13 August 1999) is an Indian professional windsurfer who is currently India's only Women iQFoiler and the first Indian to win an IQFoil Medal at the International Windsurfing Cup in July 2022 in Pattaya, Thailand.

Early and personal life

Katya Ida Coelho was born on 13 August 1999, [1] to a former national windsurfing champion of India Donald Coelho, [2] who also introduced windsurfing in Goa at The Goa Beach Sports Academy (GBSA) in association with the Water & Beach Sports Promotion Forum. Her brother Dayne Edgar Agnelo Coelho is also a windsurfing champion. Together they are called Coelho siblings. [3]

Career

Coelho started windsurfing at the age of 11 and went on to compete in the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics at the age of 14. [4] [5]

In addition to her achievements, Coelho also had the honor of representing India at the 2018 Asian Games Mixed RS:One event. She formed a team with her brother, Dayne Edgar Agnelo Coelho, and together they competed as Team India. [6]

In July 2022, Coelho represented India at the International Windsurfing Cup in Pattaya, Thailand. She secured second place, making her the first Indian to win an IQFoil Medal. [7] [ better source needed ]

Awards

Coelho has won 10 national gold medals and 2 bronze medals at the Asian Open Championship in Techno 2015. [8]

Emma Wilson is a British windsurfer who won a bronze medal in the RS:X event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She won the RS:X events at the Youth Sailing World Championships in 2016 and 2017, and won medals at the 2018 and 2019 RS:X European Championships, and the 2022 and 2023 IQFoil European Championships. She won her second Olympic bronze medal in the iQFoil at the 2024 Paris Games.

Finn Hawkins is a British windsurfer. Sailing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics were held from July 28th to August 8th at Marseille Marina. The number of sailors competing across ten different events at these Games has been reduced from 350 to 330, with an equal distribution between men and women. Sharon Kantor is an Israeli world champion windsurfer. Competing in the IQFoil class, she won the silver medal at the 2023 European Championships, and the gold medal at the 2024 World Championships. Kantor won the silver medal in the Women's IQ Foil representing Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Marseille, France. She is Israel's first female Olympic medalist in sailing.

Marta Maggetti is an Italian windsurfer who sailed in the RS:X class and then later the iQFoil windsurfer class. She was fourth in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 on a windsurfer and in 2022 she won the IQFoil World Championship. She won a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics
