The word Kavyan refers to a group of Malaysian writers of Indian descent who write in Bahasa Malaysia, the national language of Malaysia. Kavyan Writers (or Sasterawan Kavyan) contribute novels, short stories, and poems to the Malaysian literary scene, occasionally in English and Tamil as well. The Kumpulan Sasterawan Kavyan(Kavyan Writers' Group) is an association of Kavyan Writers. [1] The Kavyan set a record in The Malaysia Book of Records for a continuous 96 hours & 32 minutes recital of short stories in August–September 2003. Its founder president is Uthaya Sankar SB and she is currently the only known member after the rest of the members left to form a rival society. Francisco "Franz" Arcellana was a Filipino writer, poet, essayist, critic, journalist and teacher. He was born on September 6, 1916. Arcellana already had ambitions of becoming a writer early in his childhood. His actual writing, however, started when he became a member of The Torres Torch Organization during his high school years. Arcellana continued writing in various school papers at the University of the Philippines Diliman. Later on he received a Rockefeller Grant and became a fellow in Creative Writing at the University of Iowa and at the Breadloaf Writers' Conference from 1956– 1957.

The Writers' Movement '50, better known as Asas '50, is the first and oldest literary association in post-war Malaya and the Malay region. Founded on 6 August 1950, Asas '50 represented the voice of the Malay community and used literature as the ideal thrust towards the independence of Malaya in 1957. The association's philosophy of "Art for Society" formed the main shaping force in the development of Modern Malay literature. The literary body was pioneered by Muhammad Ariff Ahmad (MAS), Kamaluddin Muhammad, Abdul Wahab Muhammad, Abdul Jalil Haji Nor, Munir Ali (Rosmera), Kumasi Haji Dainuri, Abdul Majid Husain (Hamzah), Masuri Salikun, Abu Yamin Kasun, Ahmad Ramli Abdul Karim (Ramlimah), Muhammad Daud, Abu Yazid Abidin and Muhammad Yusof Yaacob (Jim).
The Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery is a cemetery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is located at Damansara near Taman Tun Dr Ismail. This cemetery can be seen from the Damansara Link of the Sprint Expressway. It is the final resting place of many prominent Malay personalities.

Ray Smith, born James Raymond Smith, was a Canadian novelist and short story writer. He was born on 12 December 1941 in Cape Breton and educated at Dalhousie University, Halifax, and at Concordia University, Montreal. He worked as an instructor in English at Dawson College, Montreal, until his retirement in 2007. In the early 1970s he joined with authors Clark Blaise, Raymond Fraser, Hugh Hood, and John Metcalf to form the celebrated Montreal Story Tellers Fiction Performance Group.

Nora Nadjarian is an Armenian–Cypriot poet and short story writer. She writes in English and Armenian, as well as Greek. Her writing mostly centres on the island of Cyprus, especially the partition of Cyprus into North and South, though there are numerous works of universal themes. A frequent participant in international competitions, poetry festivals, literary conferences and other projects, her poems and short stories have also appeared in numerous anthologies around the world including Cyprus, United Kingdom, United States of America, Germany, India, New Zealand and Israel. The writer has said that her work is inspired by Sylvia Plath and Yehuda Amichai. Paul Celan, Pablo Neruda and Sharon Olds are a few other idols that she has mentioned.
Datuk Dr Haji Mazlan bin Ismail is currently the Chief Operating Officer for Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). He was a prominent figure who has retired from Vice President, Telekom Malaysia (TM), took part in Malaysian politics and first appointed by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia to be an advisor to MCMC with specialised duties, before appointed to his current post. He is known best to run in the 13th general election in Malaysia in the P44 constituency area, a parliament in the state of Penang. In the 2013 general election, he lost to PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim with a majority of 11,721 votes. Although defeated, he received an increased of nearly 10,000 votes (64%) to his party from the previous election held in 2008. Now, with his long experience in the telecommunications industry, especially during the tenure as Vice President National Network Operations (VPNNO) of TM, his current main task is to provide advice and guidance to the Malaysians Communications and Multimedia Commission in the planning and implementation of the government's' Digital Nation Development ' with the target in the suburbs, a key objective in achieving Vision 2020.
Malaysia Kalai Ulagam Award or acronym known as MUK Award is the Malaysian online award ceremony to pay tribute and award the key industry player within Malaysian Indian community who have been working hard to keep the local entertainment industry of Malaysia alive. This award were presented by online entertainment show, Malaysia Kalai Ulagam. The current award for 2016 will be held on 25 February.
Zurinah Hassan is a Malaysian national laureate. She is the first female writer to be conferred the title National Laureate which in Malaysia is officially known as Sasterawan Negara.
