Kaye Styles, born Kwasi Gyasi, is a Belgian singer, songwriter, and TV personality best known for the theme song of the international soundtrack of the hit television series Prison Break produced in 2006.

Early life

Kaye Styles, whose birth name is Kwasi Gyasi was born in Ghana on 8 November 1981. [1] He came to Belgium when he was five years old. [2]

Career

First album

In 2004, he released his first single "Gimme the Mic" [3] [4] from his first album The True Definition Of Styles. [5] This became a modest hit in Belgium. Later that year he released "Somebody's Watchin' Me" [6] [7] (a "Michael Jackson cover") and "Safe Sex" with Laura Ramaekers. [8] [9]

Eurovision

In 2006 Styles entered the Belgian National selection for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Profile". He finished third in the quarter-finals and second in the semi-finals. [10] Johnny Logan one of the judges, and two-time Eurovision Song Contest winner, was so impressed by Styles' performance that they later recorded a single together, "Don't Cry / I Love to Party" which are a mash up of Logan's "Hold Me Now" and ""What's Another Year". The songs are featured on Styles' second album It Iz What It Iz [11] and third album entitled Main Event. [12] [13] The pair also performed together live at the 2006 Belgian MTV/TMF music awards held at the Antwerp Sport Palace before 20,000 people [14] and at the Flemish "Tien om te zien" Concerts. [15] With the release of the "Profile" Styles scored his [16] first Belgian top 10 hit. [17]

Prison Break

Later in 2006 Styles was asked by 20th Century Fox Television to create the title song for the Belgian version of the successful American television series Prison Break . [18] The song "Prison Break Anthem" became a top 10 hit in Belgium, a number 1 hit on the Flemish National Radio "Radio 2" [19] [20] and was played in Germany, [21] Russia, [22] [23] France, [24] Finland, [25] Estonia [26] and all over Europe. [27] The song's videoclip was recorded in a real prison and was broadcast on all the major Belgium Networks, "MTV Germany", and "MtV Russia". The same year he was also nominated for two TMF Awards – Best Urban National and Best Male National.

In 2006 Styles was also asked to be the opening act for Christina Aguilera's Benelux Tour. [28]

Stanley's Route

In 2006, Styles was also a participant on the Belgian VT4 television program Stanley's Route which was a survival program, filmed in Africa, featuring famous Belgian celebrities. [29] [30] The other contestants were: ex-TV presenter Paul Codde, stand up comedian Vitalski, actress Mieke Bouve, Miss Belgium Joke Vandevelde, model Joyce Van Nimmen, jockey Jaak Pijpen, world Judo champion Gella Vandecaveye, actor Geert Hunaerts, Belgian boxing legend, and later friend, Freddy De Kerpel [31] and politician Damienne Anciaux.

Silence – Death

As godfather for the project "EQUAL" Styles went to South Africa together with eight Belgian teenagers to shoot a documentary about aids Silence – Death in 2006. This documentary was broadcast on the Belgian teenage television channel "JIM" [32] [33]

First Born

In 2008 Styles released his fourth album First Born. [34] [35] This album contains a song featuring American superstars Akon and Konvict Music producer Tariq-L [36] called "Shawty". [37] The album itself was produced by German and American Producers like Dvo De Silva. [38] The president of the French Cognac maker Hennessy specially flew to be present at the release party for First Born. [39]

"Freedom"

In 2009 Styles recorded a single with Frank Ti-Aya or DJ F.R.A.N.K. one of the producers of the world hits "Summerjam", [40] "Candy on the Dancefloor", [41] and "Freedom". [42] The videoclip [43] was recorded in Marbella, Spain [44] "Freedom" became a number 1 hit in Belgium. [42]

"Ching Choing"

In 2011 Styles recorded a single with Michael Calfan and Bob Sinclar called "Ching Choing", [45] this was released by Bob Sinclar's record label Bob Sinclar Digital [46] & Yellow Productions. [47] [48] The single was distributed in France and Italy. [49]

"Is It Love"

In 2011, also Styles recorded a song with Romanian singer Celia, "Is It Love", produced by the Romanian producer Costi Ioniță. The videoclip was recorded in the Ukraine by Alan Badoev [50] and, at a cost of €100,000, it would be the most expensive videoclip to come out of Eastern Europe. The song became a modest hit [51] [52] in Romania and Bulgaria.

"Love Generation" is a song by French music producer and DJ Bob Sinclar featuring vocals from Gary Pine, included on Sinclar's fourth studio album, Western Dream. The single was released in September 2005 through the Yellow Productions label and became a hit in Europe and Australia, topping the charts of five countries as well as the Hungarian and US dance charts. It was less popular in the United Kingdom, reaching number 12 there, and was featured on many Ministry of Sound albums of the time and had much rotation on MTV Dance. In 2006, a new version that featured the 2006 FIFA World Cup mascot Goleo VI was released.

"Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now)" is a song by French music producer and DJ Bob Sinclar, co-produced by regular partner Cutee B and featuring Dollarman, Big Ali, and Makedah on vocals. The song uses recreated parts of the 1990 hit "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" by C+C Music Factory and was released as the third major single off the album Western Dream, on 21 August 2006. It became Sinclar's most popular single on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number three. The song also reached number one in Belgium (Flanders and Wallonia) and number six on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart.

"The Sweet Escape" is a song by American singer Gwen Stefani from her 2006 second solo studio album of the same name. It was written by Stefani, Aliaune "Akon" Thiam and Giorgio Tuinfort, and produced by the latter two. Akon, who is also a featured artist, developed the song's beat before collaborating with Stefani. He designed it based on her previous work with No Doubt, and Stefani later commented that it put her "on the yellow brick road to the No Doubt record I might do". "The Sweet Escape" is an apology for a fight between two lovers and describes a dream of a pleasant life for them. As the album's title track, its title was chosen to help market Stefani's music and fashion lines.
