Kdo byl kdo (in English, "Who was who") is the name of two major encyclopedic works in Czech, published as books, CD-ROMs and also available online. Their publisher is Libri.

The encyclopedia covering the period until 1918 contains biographies of about 800 people notable in the history of Czech and Slovak lands. Short information is provided about another 1,000 people. The encyclopedia for the 20th century contains biographies of over 1,200 people and short information about 2,000 others.

Vladimír Remek 20th and 21st-century Czech ambassador, astronaut and pilot

Vladimír Remek is a Czech politician and diplomat as well as a former cosmonaut and military pilot. He flew aboard Soyuz 28 from 2 to 10 March 1978, becoming the first and only Czechoslovak in space. As the first cosmonaut from a country other than the Soviet Union or the United States, and with the entry of the Czech Republic and Slovakia into the European Union, Remek is considered to be the first astronaut from the European Union. Remek was a member of the European Parliament between 2004 and 2013 for the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia. Since 2014, he has been the Czech Ambassador to Russia.

Karel Kryl Czech singer-songwriter and poet (1944-1994)

Karel Kryl was an iconic Czechoslovak poet, singer-songwriter and author of many hit protest songs in which he identified and attacked the hypocrisy, stupidity and inhumanity of the Communist regime in his home country.

Josef Kaizl Czech member of Czech council and economist (1854-1901)

Josef Kaizl was a well known Czech professor, economist, and politician in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He was a member of the Imperial Council, and also Cisleithanian finance minister (1898–1899). Kaizl was leading Czech liberal politician, known for his moderate attitudes and seeking of various means to strengthen autonomous position of Bohemian/Czech lands within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He served as the first Czech economics teacher at the Charles University. His close friends and collaborators were Jan Gebauer and Tomáš Masaryk.

Emanuel Famíra, was a Czech sculptor and painter. In 1933 a statue in memory of miners by Famíra was built in village of Vranov. Demolished by German authorities in 1941. Famíra, lifelong communist, became one of prominent artists of socialist realism. In 1968–1969 Famíra was member of ultraleft group of Czech communists who supported the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia.

Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague

The Faculty of Arts, Charles University, is one of the original four faculties of Charles University in Prague. When founded, it was named the Faculty of the Liberal Arts or the Artistic Faculty. The faculty provides lectures in the widest range of fields of the humanities in the Czech Republic, and is the only university faculty in Europe which provides studies in all the official languages of the European Union. The faculty has around 1,000 members of staff, over 9,000 students, and a flexible system of more than 700 possible double-subject degree combinations.

Dr. Jaroslav Brožek, CSc. was a Czech artist and professor of art, theorist in color theory, art teaching and methodologies. He authored a number of publications about color and its effects on human perception, and together with other authors he prepared textbooks for primary schools as well as art schools in the Czech Republic.

Františka Plamínková Czechoslovak politician, feminist and publicist

Františka Plamínková (1875–1942) was a Czech feminist and suffrage activist. Trained as a teacher, she became involved in feminism because teachers were forbidden to marry. She transitioned into journalism, writing articles about inequality. Elected to the Prague City Council and the National Assembly, she served as Senate Chair when Czechoslovakia broke away from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. She was a vice president of the International Council of Women, as well as the International Woman's Suffrage Alliance and attended many international feminist congresses. Plamínková was arrested by the Gestapo in 1942 and executed.

Václav Chaloupecký was a Czech historian, a student of prominent Czech historian Josef Pekař and the main representative of historians in mid-war Slovakia.

Zoe Hauptová was a Czech slavicist, palaeologist, editor, translator, lecturer and editor of the Old Church Slavonic Dictionary.

Václav Kopecký Czechoslovak member of Czechoslovak national parliament and Czechoslovak politician

Václav Kopecký was a Czechoslovak Communist politician. A member of the party since the interwar era, he spent World War II in Moscow and served as minister of culture and information in the postwar government. Kopecký was noted for his antisemitic statements, criticizing Jews for Zionism and cosmopolitanism; he also stage-managed the Slánský trial, an antisemitic show trial.
