Keells, operating as Jaykay Marketing Services (Pvt) Ltd is a supermarket chain in Sri Lanka owned by the John Keells Group, the largest listed conglomerate in the country. It is one of the three largest supermarket operators in Sri Lanka. Keells opened its first store in 1991 at Liberty Plaza with a promise to bring the freshest products to the Sri Lankan consumers. As a subsidiary of the John Keells Group, it operates 106 supermarkets across the country. Operating with the core purpose of ‘Improving the quality of life for the nation’, Keells has been recognized by many accolades for the work done towards improving the customer shopping experience.

In 2017, Keells (then Keells Super) unveiled a  new store with a fresh look and feel and in the year 2018 relaunched their brand identity as Keells [2] and the store concept in line with its ambition of improving the quality of life for the nation by providing innovative retail experiences through quality food and fresh produce at the right price to their consumers.

Keells Online, Loyalty & Own Label

Keells was the first supermarket in Sri Lanka to launch an online grocery store concept in the country [3] allowing customers to shop online and collect groceries from the store or have it delivered to their home. Keells own loyalty program Nexus [4] , provides customers with deals on everyday essentials. Keells also carries an own label portfolio of close to 300+ products covering grocery, household and beverages which now also includes Organic and Free From product ranges.

Supply Chain & Team Strength

The fresh produce is sourced from 8 collection centres across the country supporting local farmers and growers. The dry goods are delivered via a central distribution centre to the stores. Keells also owns a Retail Academy which trains team members now 5000+ in number on retail practices and processes which now also has an online training portal that carries all the training modules for easy access for the teams.

A first in the retail industry in Sri Lanka, Keells makes a commitment to embark on journey to reduce single-use plastics in-store. Keells committed to reduce by 50% single-use plastic bags and store single-use packaging for fresh food by 2025 [10] . Keells also allows customers to bring their own containers when purchasing fish, meat and bakery whilst also encouraging customers by giving a Rs.4 discount for bringing your own bag to shop.  Solar panels installed in over 55 stores to generate power using renewable energy sources.

PickMe Peer-to-peer ridesharing, food delivery, and transportation network company in Sri Lanka

PickMe is a taxi hailing app based on Sri Lanka developed and maintained by Digital Mobility Solutions (Pvt) Ltd headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The app is currently available for Android and iOS platforms. A passenger can download app from the respective app store and install it. When a taxi is requested, it would be diverted to the nearest driver via PickMe's servers where the driver would reach the passenger's location and pick up the passenger. Currently, PickMe has the vehicle options Tuk, Flex, Mini, Car (Sedans), Minivan and Luxury (VIP) cars on their fleet. Also, the app is available in English, Sinhala and Tamil.

One Galle Face Apartment building in Sri Lanka

Arpico Super Centre Supermarket in Sri Lanka

Arpico Super Centre also popularly simply known as Arpico is a chain of supermarkets which is also regarded as a departmental store located in Sri Lanka owned by Richard Pieris & Company. The retail shopping mall was initially started with the concept of supermarket and then transformed its business operations as a supercentre. It is one of the three largest retail operators on the island, alongside Cargills Food City and Keells Super. Arpico Super Centre is also regarded as one of the two most popular departmental stores in Sri Lanka along with ODEL. The Richard Pieris & Company, pioneered the concept of hypermarkets in Sri Lanka through their Arpico Super Centre chain. The store sells various types of goods in different sections under the building's roof and the headquarters is situated at Maharagama in High Level Road.

The 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Sri Lanka is an ongoing viral pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a novel infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). As of 20 April 2020, 303 confirmed cases have been reported in the country with 7 deaths. On 3 March 2020, the first reported case involving a Sri Lankan origin outside Sri Lanka was reported in Italy. As of 23 March, forty-five quarantine centres have been built in the country by the Sri Lanka Army as a preventive measure to tackle the coronavirus pandemic. Nearly 3,500 people have been under quarantine in 45 quarantine centres which also include 31 foreigners from 14 countries.
