The National Provincial Championship, often simply called the NPC, is an annual round-robin rugby union competition in men's domestic New Zealand rugby. First played during the 2006 season, it is the second highest level of competition in New Zealand alongside the Ranfurly Shield. It is organised by New Zealand Rugby (NZR) and since 2021, it has been known as the Bunnings NPC after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Farah Palmer Cup.

Central Vikings Rugby Union was a New Zealand rugby union team that played in the second division of the NPC for two seasons in 1997 and 1998. The team, formed from the merger of the Hawke's Bay and Manawatu unions, featured current and future All Blacks and a former All Black in coach Frank Oliver. It came second in its division in 1997, and first in 1998, and would have progressed to the first division. However, following financial trouble it split back into the two separate unions.
Mark William Shaw is a former New Zealand rugby union player. A flanker, Shaw represented Horowhenua, Manawatu and Hawke's Bay provincially and the All Blacks internationally. He was educated at Kapiti College.

He currently plays for the All Blacks Sevens team in the IRB Sevens World Series & is the Rugby coach for Trinity College, Kandy. The 1983 New Zealand rugby union tour of Britain was a series of eight matches played by the New Zealand national rugby union team in Scotland and England in October and November 1983. New Zealand won five of their eight games, drew one and lost the other two. They won neither of the two international matches, drawing with Scotland and losing to England. In the non-international fixtures they also suffered a defeat by the English Midlands Division invitational team.

The All Blacks won eight of the ten games, including the international match against Romania and both internationals against France. The only team to defeat the All Blacks was a French regional selection, and the All Blacks were also held to a draw by another regional team.

Kevin James Schuler is a New Zealand rugby union coach and former rugby union player. A flanker, Schuler represented Manawatu and North Harbour at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, between 1989 and 1995. He played 13 matches for the All Blacks including four internationals and the 1995 Rugby World Cup. He moved to Japan in 1996 and played for Yamaha Júbilo, where he became player–coach and later head coach. He has also had coaching roles with Bay of Plenty and the Chiefs in New Zealand.
Brian Robert Ford is a former New Zealand rugby union player. A wing, Ford represented Canterbury and Marlborough at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, from 1977 to 1979. He played 20 matches for the All Blacks including four internationals. In 1988, he was one of the first two "celebrity entries"—alongside Kevin Eveleigh—at the annual Coast to Coast adventure race.
Otere Black is a New Zealand rugby union player who currently plays as a first five-eighth for Bay of Plenty in the Mitre 10 Cup and the Blues in Super Rugby.
Sione Tuipulotu is a Tongan rugby union player, who currently plays as a lock or loose forward for Hawke's Bay in New Zealand's domestic National Provincial Championship competition and Moana Pasifika in Super Rugby.
