Khaie is a 2024 Pakistani revenge thriller television series, directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain and written by Saqlain Abbas for 7th Sky Entertainment, owned by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Set in the northern tribal areas of Pakistan, the story revolves around a tradition called “Khaie”, in which one tribe wipes out all male members of a rival family to end their bloodline and eliminate the threat of future vengeance. This centuries-old practice forms the backbone of the narrative. [5]
Darwesh Khan, returns to his ancestral homeland after years of self-imposed exile, accompanied by his family, including his daughter, Zamda. Despite having suffered loss at the hands of his enemies in the past, Darwesh attempts to make peace with Duraab Khan, the patriarch of a rival tribe and a longtime enemy. Duraab, an aging leader of the tribe haunted by past violence, is open to reconciliation, but his son, Channar Khan disagrees with his decision. [6] [7]
Channar sees Darwesh's return as a threat to his authority and the old order. He does not trust the Darwesh's peace offer and plots revenge under the guise of tribal honor. During a wedding celebration at Darwesh Khan’s house, which marks Zamda's marriage to his cousin Badal Khan, Channar launches a attack. He has all the male members of Darwesh’s family murdered, committing an act of Khaie, wiping out their lineage. [8]
Among the survivors is Zamda, who is devastated by the loss of her father and brothers. To consolidate his power and humiliate the fallen family, Channar against Zamda's will marry her, despite her engagement to Badal. Her marriage to her family’s murderer triggers her to take revenge for their murder.
Zamda, once a gentle and hopeful young woman, is in grief as living under the roof of her enemies, she hides her sorrow and rage while scheming her revenge. With every passing day, her only motive was to destroy Channar’s power from within. Over time, she manipulates her surroundings, forms alliances, and uncovers secrets that allow her to gain influence within the enemy household.
As Zamda grows stronger, her love for Badal remains in the background, as her purpose becomes her purpose of life: avenging her family and breaking the cycle of tribal custom. She eventually succeeds in assassinating Channar Khan and then turns her attention to Duraab Khan, holding him responsible for allowing the tradition of Khaie to persist. She ensures his downfall as well, thus delivering justice not only for her family, but also for generations of victims of tribal customs. [9] However, Zamda chooses not to pursue vengeance against Aizaz, Channar's youner son. Instead of continuing the bloodshed, she adopts a path of mercy, choosing to educate and raise him far away from the tribal lands—in Karachi. This act marks a break from tradition and suggests a future, free from cycles of revenge and patriarchal violence. [10] [11] [12]
